So, I am taking a Public Speech class this summer. I just got done giving a speech on Android today (Speech to Inform) where I laid out the origin of Android, informed on the Open Handset Alliance (subject of technological openness), and then laid out why Android has evolved technologically so quick. I used statistics showing the rapid growth. Basically, this speech took no sides. It was completely factual.

I have a speech due in a week and a half where I will be attempting to persuade the audience to choose Android over iPhone. The speech I gave today was laying the groundwork for what is to become a speech in order to show why Android should be the consumer's best option. I already have in mind some points, and I have some of the outline and delivery in my mind's eye already. I thought it would be fun to include you, the community, in this endeavor.

As die-hard Android enthusiasts, we all have opinions on why people should opt for Android as their smartphone of choice. And, I am sure most of our opinions are fairly universal. In fact, some of these opinions I will be using in this speech; however, what I am really looking for is hard data versus subjective opinion. For example, I could say Android is the better OS because the UI is better. Well, sure, you and I believe it is but why? It's okay to have some opinion in this speech but it would be helpful if I had some solid, irrefutable and clear facts that show Android has the leg up over iOS. Ok?

So, if any of you have some free time and feel like helping me out for fun, I'd appreciate it as well as enjoy it!

Note: Please don't turn this thread into an all out war on Android vs. iPhone. We've done that to death and this isn't what I am looking for. Thanks all!

Personally I think the biggest thing is the freedom, to customize. Android fully supports users rooting and doing what they want with their device.

I love the idea of the topic however you are going to need to understand that you may have a lot of people argue with you about the topic even though there is no logic to their argument. I have had many "conversations" about Android vs. iPhone/iOS and it always ended up the same way. I would lay out solid points but they would just say "Well the iPhone is just better, Apple makes it". To be honest most, I say most because there are level headed people out there with iPhone who acknowledge their faults but most of them are Apple drones.

Anyway SOTK, I love the idea of the topic and here are some points you can feel free to hit on...

1. Android offers much more options when it comes to cell phone branding. You have Motorola, HTC and Samsung to name the big ones plus many other smaller ones.

2. Android offers your a much more intuitive operating system where you can tweak many more settings and have the total freedom to make the device your own. How often do you see people with the same phone, with the exact same look?

3. Support for an open source community. This is why we have such a huge developer base and its great. So many people to play with code and get their hands around how it all works.

4. Powered by Google. The phone is basically Google in your pocket. Even more so now with Jelly Bean and Google Now, it doesn't get much more integrated than this. Yes iPhone has Siri. But Google Now is much more than just a talking app. It is Siri on steroids.

5. This may not be big for some, but it is for me... Most have a removable battery. I love have the ability to do a battery pull in case something goes wrong or to always have the option to buy an extended battery.

There are probably a lot more that I am missing here but its early here and I am only on my second cup of coffee lol. SOTK, feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the stuff I posted.

My first thought is choice:
one phone design dose not suit all consumers, plain and simple.
Android offers lots of different choices:

Price
Size
keyboard (not for me, but some people still love there physical keyboard)
Hardware
Removable Battery
Expandable Memory
True user customization
True choice of carrier (the smaller ones and prepaid plains)
And i am sure there are a lot more choices that i have not mentioned.

The beauty of Android is;
You don't have to live with, "one size fits all".
