want to root OG Droid with 2.2 to cyanogen 6.0?

Im running an OG droid that i force downloaded 2.2 and installed adobe 10.1 The phone is great im really happy but i want to gain more speed and customization and i dont know the first thing about rooting and getting the ball rolling. im interested in the new cyanogen mod 6.0 unless someone else out there has a better suggestion. im looking for the best possible combination of everything actually working when this is all done and speed, PLEASE HELP. maybe some step by step help including all the links and files i need for what im after

google for an app called Universal Androot. Open app and hit root. Go to market, download rom manager, open Rom Manager and hit the first option to Flash Clockwordmod recovery. Go down to Download rom, choose Cyanogen and CM6 should be the first option. Check back up and wipe data and hit ok.

When I doanload the cyan as you described (1-3 files} it goes to a screen and gives two options and i do then it automatically goes into reboot mode and i see install update.zip and try and it says error so i just start over. im stuck please help

rom manager is quirky sometimes. Download the files below to your sdcard either by opening the links in your phone web browser or by downloading them on a computer and then moving them to the phone. Turn the phone off and hold x and the power button to boot into recovery. Go to nandroid and then backup. Let that finish and choose wipe data/factory reset and then wipe cache (you can try without this step but you may run into problems with the rom). Then pick Install zip from sdcard and Choose zip from sdcard. Browse to where the files are stored and select update-cm-6.0.0-Droid-signed.zip and then do the same for gapps-hdpi-20100817-signed.zip and reboot.
