Warm color temp when viewing straight on

Hello all, wanted to ask here to see if I need to swap my phone out or maybe it is normal....

I picked up a new Force with the Best Buy deal going on. I couldnt pass up a top spec phone for $524 after the gift card plus the free JBL Mod! So far I love the phone vs. my MXPE. Battery life has been great, the camera has been really great and there is zero lag with anything I do with it.

But - today I was using it and I noticed if I am looking straight on at the screen the white color temp is quite warm/yellowish tinted. Not much mind you, but it is definitely noticeable. This is with the display settings set to normal or vibrant (I prefer normal). Now if I turn the screen ever so slightly, and I mean just a couple degrees, in any direction the screen is pure white looking. If I keep going it almost gets too cool into the white/bluish range.

My past 3 long term phones all had LCD screens and I didnt keep the S7 long enough to get used to their AMOLED screens. I didnt know if this was something normal or if I need to go exchange this. If it is normal I may try and just live with it as I think it's a killer phone for the price but it's really bugging me now that I notice it!

I don't notice that on my phone. I would take it back - especially if you're still within the return policy, and see if you can exchange it. Doesn't sound right.

Phone is 2 days old so well within return period. I am avoiding BB today with the Apple people getting their new phones! I'll stop in this weekend. They had none on display so I couldnt even try one out.

I really like the phone so far. I get bad signal but I've still only lost 19% over 6 hours with 1 hour screen time. Way better than my MXPE. Better than my 5x with Nougat but that phone has terrible reception vs. either Moto. I also got some great shots of my kids at the park yesterday.

It really is a solid, honest phone. Not the most bells and whistles, it just works for the most part.

Better to be safe than sorry so I'd swap it out to play it safe. If your next one does it, then you'll know for sure it's just the software and normal. I've not noticed it on mine either though.

Turn off adaptive brightness and check how it looks. That makes mind very warm in tone. Tilting it makes the screen turn a blue/green color

I finally made it into a Verizon store to compare to their Force. It was white no matter what direction I tilted the screen vs. mine. Mine when head on looks like the white balance is off and too warm when taking a photo unless I slightly tilt the screen. This is with any white background, adaptive brightness on or off and the actual color temp set from "vivid" to "normal". The higher the brightness the less it is noticeable but it is still there.

The bad news is BB is out of stock at every store around me so I cant just exchange it for a new one. I need to ask what the policy is when that happens. I'm guessing they can ship one out or something.

Oh, I also tried out the Z Play at Verizon. That phone is pretty nice for a $400 phone! Plenty snappy doing basic stuff, screen was very clear and the headphone jack was nice. Still think the Force was worth the extra $100 and free JBL mod but the Play is a nice mid-range phone.

I'm sure you could start the exchange process at BestBuy without them having one in stock. They'll probably order one in & put your name on it.

I was in luck at Best Buy, they had received two more in stock earlier in the day. Took over an hour to swap it out due to a Verizon glitch and then the new phone wouldnt make a test call. Ended up swapping SIM cards out and all was well. New phone looks way better than the old one. Still has a tiny hint of yellow but after researching AMOLED screens a lot of them do. It's definitely better than the old phone so it's a keeper.

Now to find a decent screen protector... The screen is actually wavy when looking at a steep angle against reflected light. I am not surprised a lot of glass protectors have issues sticking flat.
