Warning: Big Troubles with Samsung Galaxy S5, Lollipop, and Verizon

Well it's early yet, but so far disabling S-Health has helped a great deal. I also did a battery pull for good measure.

I previously did a factory reset that did absolutely nothing, so it's already improved. I was using the pedometer, which hadn't been an issue with KitKat.

My phone has been rendered completely useless. I can not unlock it, power it off, recieve a call, nothing....I am just waiting for a Verizon a store to open and I will be on their door step. I am a self employed single mother. This is TOTALLY unacceptable!!!!! I think I will have to go to one of the big stores in Atlanta so I can get the most attention.

Thanks for sharing. I've downloaded the update but have not installed it. How do I delete the downloaded update file and then prevent my phone from still wanting to update?

No problems here. Phone is pretty ugh the same performance wise. Still getting an avg of 18 to 20 hrs per charge. It's a bit quicker. No lag. All is well.

I asked a guy at work today if he got the update yet.
When he said no, I suggested if he is having no issues with how his s5 is running now, he may want hold off for awhile.

Just an update, turns out that was only temporary and probably had nothing to do with S-health and more to do with the reboot.

My phone is frequently getting warm and lagging badly now. A reboot helps for about an hour or so. Battery used to almost always get me through a day with about 40% to spare and now it almost never makes it a full day. My S5 on Lollipop is a complete POS at just a year old and I'm not at all happy about it. I've done the partition clear, I've done a factory reset, this phone is simply a worthless POS and I am seriously considering taking up Sprint on their contract buyout offer to get away from Samsung and Verizon crapware. This is unacceptable in a $600+ phone with these specs.

Well, hopefully this is good news.

Just read at androidpolice.com that the release of LP that VZW GS5 users received, G900VVRU1BNLC, had pulled the release at some point, which was news to me. Even better, I hope, is the news that VZW is pushing out a new version of LP for GS5: G900VVRU1BOA4. Disclaimer: a capture of the notification image in the story shows the version as: G900VVRU1BOC4.

Nothing is listed as different from the first release, but the software version number is different. Apparently, the rollout started Saturday, 03/28/15.

The G900VVRU1BNLC Lollipop build of Dec: 2014 was advertised by Verizon but was abandoned and never released across-the-board, (news to me too), and instead the Verizon Lollipop release was on the OA8 build of Jan: 2015 with the very low changelist # of 3846539.

This latest build, if reports are true, is OC4 which is build # 4 of Mar: 2015 and is probably based on the Samsung OB7 build of 13th Feb: 2015 which introduced the Mute Button and Screen Pinning but has now been replaced by Samsung on their unbranded international, G900F, model with a very much higher changelist firmware of OC7 which corrects a lot of issues such as Wi-Fi, lag, notifications and battery drain, to name but a few.

Unfortunately, since it takes Verizon 6-8 weeks to heavily modify the Samsung Touchwiz firmware and add all their extra bloatware before bypassing Samsung and releasing direct to their customers, their firmwares will always be obsolete before release.

Having said that, unless Verizon have totally mucked it up in their modification and bloatware process, customers, "should" notice a big improvement on their original Verizon Lollipop firmware.... let's be honest... it couldn't be any worse... could it?

UPDATE

There seems to be some confusion as to who is elgible for this latest Verizon update :-\

I trust that the report, here, turns out to be false. Otherwise, it would appear that this latest bugfix update is only available to Verizon customers that have NOT already updated to Verizon's version of Lollipop and that those who have, are being punished, even more, for updating...

"The latest roll-out will be applicable only to users of Verizon Galaxy S5 who have not been seeded the Lollipop update until now. Users who have installed the earlier Lollipop build will not be eligible to install the latest update."

I wonder if this means that if you revert back to the Verizon Android 4.4.4 release, see Verizon downgrade to KitKat - Dummies Guide, you will become eligible to receive this bugfix update???
