After the update to 4.4.4 I started receiving prompts to utilize "visual voice mail." It said it was free. Well, guess what? It's free for only 30 days after which you begin to get billed $2.99/month for this service regardless of how many voicemails you get. What deceptive scummy thing to do to subscribers.

A real serious turnoff.

Needless to say I contacted Vz customer service and disenrolled in this ripoff.

I was under the impression the Basic version is free. The fee was for the enhanced version.

The basic version is free, someone failed at reading comprehension.

OK, I finally figured it out. The vioce mail to speech feature is only with the Premium version of this. This is the 30 day come-on. If you want that they'll charge you $2.99/month after that initial 30 days. The "basic" version is, in fact, free but it does not convert v-mails to text. What it does do is allow you to directly access the audio of your v-mail directly from your phone's screen without having to call in to your voice mail and enter your PIN. Still a pretty cool feature and one that I want on my phone.

And, as I said, this is free forever so my apologies to Vz for my earlier statement. It would be nice, however, if the Vz customer service reps knew about this and could explain it to you in a coherent fashion (they can't....it took three calls to Vz before I was able to figure this out).
