Warping and Dents? Return it, swap it, keep it?

Ok, i'll overdo this reply slightly, just to try and bring some balance to the force.... :-)

You clearly liked your G5, do what you think rather than listening to others who may not own the device. Although there is a lot of noise around this phone, if you look at the threads with real owners on, the vast majority got good quality phones, with no issues, and are very happy with them. These tend to be one liners, whereas the negativity is repeated a lot, so looks bigger than it is. If you get another one, it could and should be perfectly fine. If you are putting a case on it, then nicking it should be less of an issue (I can see how the painted thing, will make it more susceptible to knocks).

Also, if you liked the wide angle camera, the HTC can't give you that, the G5 can, and is a USP that no-one else has right now. Likewise, IR blaster, removable battery, on screen buttons (my personal preference), fingerprint sensor on the back (preference) - if you like any of these features, then the G5 gives it to you. Or maybe you don't like antennae lines, which LG have very cleverly covered up - the first metal bodied phone to do that. I bet they wish they hadn't bothered now.

So... as I said, do what feels right for you. Don't just get an HTC because people have told you to, do it because you think its the right phone for you and you prefer its features over the G5s. Which other than a slightly better camera, and the feel of cold hard metal against your skin - which apparently is all the rage these days - i'm not sure what the 10's standout features are. Still a good phone, don't get me wrong.

And just being facetious for a second, one of the early criticisms was this whole cold metal thing. If that's such a nice feeling, why don't case manufacturers make cold metal cases to put on your phone? Maybe, its because its not a very welcoming feeling. LGs primer on metal gives you the best of both worlds, premium metal, without the harshness.

So as I said, this isn't meant to be taken too seriously, but this is about as overly positive, as some of the overly negative posts are, just to balance things up.

Seeing someone get talked out of a phone she clearly really liked so easily, made me feel a little bit sad inside. 1st post "I'm loving this phone...". 2nd and 3rd posts - "get the HTC 10, get the HTC 10....." - "Oh ok then".

I like you. Your cool. And you're right. Lol to sum it up, build quality is HUGE for me. I like to have a sleek sexy phone, g5 is awesome and if they improve on build quality there is chance I'm going to get one again. My OCD was highly bothered by the warping on the back on mine. So once Verizon gets the HTC I'm gonna check it out then make my desicion. I have a note 5 right now as well so if I end up disliking both I can always wait it's not like my phone is outdated. Thanks for all your responses. The main thing drawing me to the HTC right now is design & build, the thing looks beautiful but those are all things I need to see in person before deciding. Great size, great shape, I love type C charging and it has a decent camera so it seems good but I have never owned an HTC so idk lol I hope their OS is good. The more I see the silver and black I'm falling more in love lol

HTC's Sense UI is traditionally good. You shouldn't have any worries in that regard.

I feel your pain man. And I don't disagree. I love my G5, but I can understand if might not be everyone's cup of tea. I do think the G5 didn't get a fare shake in the press. I also know that LG needs to do a better job getting retail units in the hands of the people that are gonna shape opinions.

I'm still loving the build. It's still very fast. Still feels good in my hand. Great screen and camera. I'm more in love with this phone as time goes on.

Edit: And the quality control issues. God knows that's bad for business.

lol, thanks. And thanks for not taking offence, I was worried for a second you might, but it was meant to be light-hearted. I think I probably would have got the HTC had it come out first, it does look like a solid phone. I am loving the G5 though. The right bottom of my chin is about a quarter of a millimetre out of alignment, and to start with I was a bit "Arrghh, oh no, this is a disaster", but I honestly don't think i'd have noticed it without people pointing out it might be an issue. After a couple of days I;ve forgotten about it, and the phone is so great to use and hold, I actually don't care. It must be very difficult manufacturing wise to get two separate pieces to line up absolutely 100%. Have a xtremeskin on the way as well, so that will help.

Case in point (about not noticing things until they are pointed out) I did check for light bleed on my G5 in a dark room with a mainly black screened game, after telling myself I wouldn't!!. It was perfect thankfully, no bleed at all... but OMG... my old Nexus 5 which I had next to it and had owned for over 2 years was AWFUL. The screen looked grey instead of black next to the G5, and there was a big white stripe at the top, and you could see exactly where all the other LEDs were. Boy am I glad I didn't read a Nexus 5 light bleed thread 2 years ago, I'm not sure i'd have slept :-)

Lol i am the same way. Willing to look past minor build flaws for the sake of a sweet device. If I don't love the HTC 10 (which should be on display in Verizon tm) I will most likely go back to the g5. S7 in silver is damn near beautiful though lol I wish I could customized my own smart phone into the best of all 3

I went back to the G5 while waiting for the HTC. Got a great deal on Ebay for 500 dollars a brand new Titan. I think the dark finish is nicer. When the HTC comes out, I will check it out and if it suits me better might get that on the installment plan and sell the G5.

that sounds like a good plan. my htc should arrive this weekend and i'll leave my review on it

Only one color on Verizon...and I'm liking G5 again and the titanium really grew on me.

I'll have to look at the HTC 10 in person in order to device on whether I should take it for a test drive.

i can post pictures or answer any questions!

Hello miss,

Glad you found the device that appeals to you.

Was trying to search the HTC forums for your initial impressions... Good lord, everywhere's that nonsense hatred (well, too much internet warriors).

If you could be kind enough to share you're thoughts about your new device compared to the LG, it would be nice.

P.S.: I'm aware this is the LG G5's page, and sorry for the off-topic, but won't return to that forum, that's for sure (maybe if I'm getting a response to my first, and also last post, left there).

Hey! Sorry for the delayed response. So yes there are pros and cons to each phone. I prefer the HTC 10 for these reasons:
1. Build quality and design
2. Feel in the hand. Just fits nicely, the g5 was sharp on the edges.
3. Software (barely any bloat and a smooth experience)
4. Snapdragon 820 with 4gb... Like 0 lag..... Ever
5. Fingerprint sensor placement
6. Optical image stabilization on the 5 mpx front facing camera
7. Audio both with speakers and using headphones
8. 3000 mAh battery. It gets me through a whole day

Reasons I like the g5 better
1. Camera (though it was choppy for apps like instagram and snapchat)
2. Removable battery

Basically the HTC 10 just feels premium and it checks all the boxes for me. Expandable storage, fast performance, great audio, good camera, the perfect size and a clean software. Lots of room for FREE customization. Always nice lol. Both have USBtype C which I love. Truthfully, I enjoyed the g5, it's not a bad phone, but honestly the build quality and thin glass alone would make me not go back to it. It felt cheap to me. And there were warps and dents. I'm not willing to accept that on a phone I'm paying 600$+ on. I'm sure the g6 is gonna be beast lol. Any other specifics and I'll be happy to answer!

No, not much. It ran like butter. It only lagged during some games. But no phone will *never* lag. Both run better than Samsung IMO
