Hello everyone. I need some advice for what to do about a recent issue. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read. I apologize if there are any typos. I'm typing this on the bus on the way to work.
My phone was having issues with charging my Galaxy S3. (which I've had since Dec. 15) recently. Basically the phone was discharging on Thursday night while in use on my Samsung charger. I've used the phone while it has been charging before and I've never experienced that problem. The phone hit 0%, did not shut off at first and then the next thing I know it was dead.
I believe I ended up turning it off and it was fully charged by morning.
The next day I awoke, went to work, charged it using my Tech & Go charger like usual (I use the Samsung charger at home Tech & Go for travel) and assumed the issue may have been app related. I decided I'd monitor it closely later at home.
Friday night I did discovered that a process was using more battery that it ought to (MapServices) so I shut it off and let it come back on. The app I was using to monitor all of this--Battery Stats Plus--also basically told me that my battery life was horrible and the temp of my battery seemed to always be above average no matter what my usage was. (Although now my temp is below average and I've been on the phone for 30 mins almost.). I ended up falling asleep and when I awoke, I simply charged the phone, used it a little and went to sleep again.
Saturday when I went to a friend's house, I brought my Samsung charger and the phone started discharging on the charger again but only when I viewed my cloud drive on the Amazon site. I thought their oulet was weak and when I moved it to a new one, it allowed me to download videos for hours before the issue returned. When I awoke, I swore my phone was at 100%, only to discover it was at 69% shortly after with no evidence it was ever at 100%.
I thought it may have been the Samsung charger, so when I went home I decided to test it one last time and then get rid of it if the issue persisted. I slept in most of Sunday, so I didn't use my phone much throughout the day. It charged on the Samsung charger just fine. Later that night after heavy usage, the issue returned so I tossed the charger to the side and decided charged it with the Tech & Go charger.
When I awoke Monday morning, the phone seemed stuck at 86% and was still charging. I took the battery out, put it back in, put the phone in the charger while off and showered. When I returned it was--to my surprise--at 100%.
This single issue shifted my thinking to the phone being the issue as opposed to the chargers.
So when I told my friend, they suggested I go to the AT&T store right away. I wanted to give it one more day so I could monitor its behavior on the Tech & Go charger closely. It was fine on my work computer but I needed to see if it would be fine charging in an outlet.
However I went against my better judgment and went to the AT&T store that day.
The guy there was really nice and he pretty much only checked to see if my battery had ever gotten wet, then he called AT&T told them he tested it more extensively and got them to send me a phone under my Warranty.
So now, the phone seems to be doing okay. I'm using the Tech & Go charger now and I believe my Samsung charger was the problem. I haven't gotten a chance to use the phone heavily--for an extended period of time--again on the Tech & Go but I have tested it briefly and it charges while in use.
But now the new phone is on the way. Not only am dreading having to transfer everything over, but it wasn't clear that it was refurbished. I knew phones were that were replaced under insurance, but wasn't clear about ones under warranty. When I called and found this out, I became all the more resistant to changing phones.
So now I have a good new phone (Although it has its issues here and there) and a refurb on the way.
What should my next step be?
Thank you again. Your advice is appreciated.
