What should I do regarding a refurbished unit. Received my pixel 2 XL yesterday brand new sealed paid £400 but when I tried to take a picture there was red pixels all over screen, Contacted retailer and they don't have anymore left to swap, phoned Google and now I need to send phone in for a replacement however they are said it will be a refurbished unit 😮 do they really expect me to accept a refurbished phone when my phone was faulty out of the box
 
Unfortunately, this is standard practice for manufacturers (and not just for phones). I don't like it either, and I would rather flat return the device for a full refund. I would also try to get them to waive any restocking fee due to being a defect. Then go buy another new one outright when they come in or from another retailer.
 
I agree with Mooncatt, simply return the device to where you bought it from and either wait for them to get more in stock or find one elsewhere. You should be within your return period with the retailer if you just purchased it.
