My original Droid (D1) is starting to get very flaky with the power button. I'm having to press it harder and harder. It's still under warranty (until December), so I'm looking to get it replaced.

I've heard that D1's are being replaced under warranty with D2's now. Is there any truth to this, or am I being mislead?

Some are its purely luck of the draw. I received a droid 2 as a replacement. But be careful with that power button without root you would be screwed if it failed

As with any phone being replaced under warranty, the manufacturer will attempt to repair the phone before they fully replace anything. If a phone is beyond repair, they generally try to replace it with a refurbished one before they replace it with a whole new one. Even then, the chances of the phone being replaced by a brand new, seperate model are slim. (At least, this has been my experience with multiple carriers / manufacturers / phones.)

My suggestion would be, if you are deeply attached to your phone, see if you can get it fixed. That generally takes less time than a full replacement (unless your carrier/manufacturer goes, hey, let's just swap it for a new one / new model now, which is ALWAYS welcomed lol).

Amy, with Verizon, they typically just to a swap for a Certified Like New Replacement device. If there is a known issue, or they are just out of stock, they may switch it with another model.

i'm trying for my second time to get a replacement. the first one they sent me was a Droid 1 (gen 1 - ultra low keyboard) and its camera was malfunctioning. so i have a new one coming today. if something is wrong with this one, im going to demand a brand new phone and not a refurb.

well when my replacement arrived today, it was likely in one of the worst conditions it could have been. the screen barely stayed still without rattling around it was so loose. so i have #3 in 7 days on its way out. Hopefully i'll get a quality replacement this time. if not, who knows what is gonna get stirred up.

Oh God, now I'm worried what I'm going to be going through...

Ordered a refurbished Droid last week since mine is slowly breaking unfortunately. If these CLNR Droids are really crappy like everyone is saying, I may be on the phone until next week (figuratively, of course).

Fingers crossed though, it comes to my door tomorrow. :o

my droid kept freezing up on me and the factory reset didn't work. so i should get my refurbished droid in a couple hours. it better be in good shape cuz my broken droid ( minus the massive software failure ) is in perfect shape.

just keep the better of the 2 and call and swap it out again. Took me 3 times before I got an acceptable one. I was hoping for a D2 but had already ordered the X so it didnt really matter.

I got a refurb for my daughters phone that was just a texting phone and the replacement was awful, it looked like something was spilled on the phone and it had gunk in all the cracks and corners, one of the few times I called yelling, I told them they should be embarrassed to have sent out a phone like this, she got a new one for the next phone needless to say.

Yeah, just got my refurb from FedEx. To be blunt, absolutely **** condition. Dead spots on the screen, very unrepsonsive, the volume rocker doesn't work, amongst other problems. Getting another refurb tomorrow, here's hoping the next (and final, I'm not dealing with this forever) one is better off.

I got a clnr droid like 4 months ago in place of a pos droid Eris. Never been happier. Haven't had any problems with the phone that I haven't caused and fixed myself.

Got Droid 2

I was having problems with my Droid 1 and so i called at got a Like new droid sent to me and got it today and it was crap. This is my 5th replacement. I called and talked to tech and I asked if I could switch to a different phone due to the issues I have had. and he is over nighting me a Droid 2. I got a confirmation email and it is a D2. so we'll see how I like it

This is easily the Third if not fourth new thread on the same topic x_x

Yep, I had the same issues. They gave me a DINC with a extended battery and charger. I went through 3 like new replacements within 2 days. It was a certified like new device, and I am happy to say I have had no issues with the DINC.

Second replacement arrived today, DOA. Really ticked off, it's a damn shame Verizon is shipping these devices. It looked brand new, felt brand new, but wouldn't power up. 3rd replacement comes tomorrow, crossing fingers (again).

wow, I can see it having some sort of minor problem or even getting one in crappy condition but to get one that is DOA is just crazy. You would think they at least make sure they power up.

Well it took me a week, but i received a replacement Droid 2 for my Droid 1 that had the ever so slightest software problem. It was something i could easily have fixed because i would just wipe data and cache. but i had them send me a replacement. all you have to do is find a hardware problem with your device and they'll send you another replacement.
1st replacement - Camera didnt work correctly
2nd replacement - screen wasnt attached well
3rd replacement - keyboard was crap
4th replacement - BRAND NEW DROID 2 OVERNIGHTED
So just be patient and kind with the representatives. they're trying to do their jobs.
