From AC's Nexus 5 FAQ:

Q: What kind of warranty do i get with the Nexus 5 from Google?
A: The little book that came with the Nexus 5 that none of us read says there's a "limited" 12-month warranty for the original purchaser only.

So, it looks like you'd be out of luck.

Gplay order? So how about from bb, amazon or sprint? No warranty?

I'm not sure how this works, but if you're buying it as a gift, that would suck to have to go through the original buyer for RMA.
