Was it worth the upgrade

Welp, i pulled the trigger. Damn black Friday got me. Had to order a 64gb clearly white because the 128 was 5 weeks out. Seems like there might be quite a few people taking advantage of this deal.

Anybody have either the UAG monarch case, or the OtterBox clear symmetry? I'm kind of leaning towards a clear case to show off the white, but I'm not sure how protective the symmetry is. The uag would be my take to work case.

My wife opted for the OtterBox Symmetry for her 3 XL. She drops her phone regularly. I think she could throw it against the wall and it wouldn't be damaged. The only thing she doesn't like is the difficulty of pushing the power button. It's really stiff and difficult to push.

I opted for the Google fabric case in Fog for my 3 XL. I really like it, but then I've never yet dropped any phone I've ever had. The power button is easy to push and has the same clicky feel as a naked 3 XL.

I also upgraded from the Pixel 2 XL and honestly, no I don't feel like it's worth the upgrade.

It's a nicer phone all round and the screen is an enormous upgrade, but I don't think it's worth the price. The camera is marginally better and many features will be making it's way to the Pixel 2, call screen and duplex are also making their way to the Pixel 2, and the only real upgrades for the Pixel 3 are the things that the Pixel 2 screwed up so horribly (screen and build) but then with that great screen (albeit with low max brightness) they have this giant bathtub notch which I just couldn't not see and had to hide it.

The Pixel 3 is a very incremental upgrade and I see you've decided to buy it, so I hope you enjoy it more than I do.

I couldn't resist the $200 off from Google yesterday even though I am an iPhone guy. :)

I didn't know what the backlog would be, so I got up at 3am EST and ordered a 3 XL to beat the rush.

I hit up Best Buy last night when they opened at 5pm and picked up a Pixel Stand and a Google fabric case so I'll be ready for when it comes in next week.

Only thing I'll need to do is hit up the Zagg Kiosk at the mall next week to get a tempered glass put on. I have been reading that they might have made them a little big because they are not sitting properly and haloing a bit on the edges.

my advice is avoid the screen protectors that are full coverage and only have adhesive around the edges.

I was playing music at my brother's house last night.... Man these speakers get loud. They sounded pretty clear to

I was actually surprised that you bought it - because you hated it. I'm not surprised that you didn't change your mind about how much you hated it; we did already know about 95% of what there was to know about it before the announcement. I mean, you didn't passively dislike the P3XL; it was obvious hate. It still is. In the strongest sense of that word. You have nearly 200 posts about it since the first information started leaking 5 months ago and every single one of them is either dismissive of the positive aspects of the devices or outright negative posting about various aspects, from the notch, to the chin, to the RAM, to the design team needing to be fired, to the gestures, the single camera... to basically everything about it that makes it different from the devices that it is not trying to be. Spending 4 months hating a device, then buying it, then spending another month complaining about it .... I honestly don't get it.

but then with that great screen (albeit with low max brightness)

Example of passive aggressive attack here that is extremely misleading. The Pixel 3 XL does not have a low max brightness. It has an above average max brightness. What it doesn't have, is the boost that other OEMs provide in auto mode when in direct sunlight. What it does have, that other OEM's do not, is record breaking low screen reflectance, which increases color contrast in high ambient light - making it more visible in high ambient light in all situations except for the temporary boost that the Note 9, et al can provide.

But the important part of this is the misinformation contained within the passive aggressive attack. Unless we're redefining the word, "low" to mean, "less than the best", then "low" is very misleading. The label used instead, by the experts who measure these things, was "very good" on auto brightness and "excellent" on screen readability in high ambient light. Those are actually, coincidentally, the exact same terms used by the same experts to describe the Note 9 in the same categories.

I would have a hard time saying that it's absolutely worth upgrading from the 2 to the 3. They're both great phones, and the 3 is obviously better, but is it enough to suddenly make the 2 obsolete? Possibly not. But I have the same dilemma with almost every phone that people want to upgrade to from the prior model. The industry just isn't built around annual upgrade cycles - it's still built around 2-3 year cycles.

I'm on Verizon w 2xl. Even with $400 off I'm sticking with my 2xl because I still love it and have no issues. If I needed a phone I would get the 3xl. Hopefully the P4 will have some additional hardware features that I find useful and I'll bite on that one next Black Friday.

Don't think people has even learned how to use everything on the Pixel 3 XL yet.
You have to get the updates and know what to look for.
This forum has been very helful letting everybody know about the updates.
And like Night Sight. You get it and never even know it came to the phone.
I tried the pixel 2 XL out for a few days. Took it back and decided to wait on the 3XL.
I have had no problems with my Pixel 3 XL.
Think some of the problems has came from the Pixel 3.
And even then, I think the installation or the apps they have on their phone might be the problem.

Before I did anything if I had a problem with the pixel, I would of done a factory Reset.
Cause as you know we got a new operating system Pie.
And anytime a new operating system comes out, there is always BUGS.
The Bugs lie in the software, not necessarily in the phone.
That is a reason carriers hold the updates till the Bugs are worked out so they don't have customers having problems and complaining about their phones are giving them problems.

Pixel is the 1st people to get the update of Pie.
And when they release the update, What happens.
Google's employees do a walk out.
Good time to get rid of some Developers and other people.

Can't wait to find out for myself. Just ordered a 128gb XL in white from VZW. Going to sell my Note 9. Tried the phone out in the store and love the look and feel.

We have a 2 and 2xl around our place. I have been feeling the size of the 2xl with my little girly hands lately so wiped the 2xl for my lady, and I got the 3 little. I was honestly a little worried about going small again, but so far it's not bad. like a mini version of the 2xl with a "better" display. there's a lot of talk about the xl any others rocking the little? thoughts? am I crazy?

Honestly, I won't miss any of those apps. I tend to do all I can to make my Note look like a Pixel both app and launcher-wise, so...

Wasn't worth it for me. After three Pixel 2 devices all with similar issues to varying degrees I had to try something else. So far other than camera the OnePlus 6T has been better in every other way and I got a screen bigger than the 3XL and saved a few hundred while also selling my Pixel 2 for more than I could get on any trade in deal. As for the camera, it's more than adequate.

I played with the 2xl and 3xl at the store, own a 3. The screen difference is pretty large but I personally wouldn't upgrade. As some have said yes it's obviously better, but I'd wait for the 4xl.

The phones in the store are in Demo mode.
You can't hardly tell much.

Wait a year for the pixel 4.

That's when it's time for another new phone.
I have already be had my 3xl for nearly 2 months.

It's like 11 months before the Pixel 4 XL comes out.

How patient be is somebody supposed the be.

Ya I know they're demo, point is yes the screen quality is much improved but they both perform great. I am sure the phones are same daily use, 3xl felt similar to my 3.

IMO, it's an incremental step to go from a 2 to a 3. If money isn't an issue and just want to pick up the newest model, then by all means you should do it. Pixel 3 is a great device for sure. But if you've got any hesitations for any reason, I don't think it's a purchase that should be made.
