Was there a 2nd gen model of the HTC ONE M8?

I had an HTC ONE M8 thru Verizon for about 6 months and the charging port went bad. I called Verizon and they had a new one out to me a day later. The new phone came in the same color but the tint and finish feels different. The phone seems to be much faster and there is a quality difference I can't place. Did they upgrade this model sometime during production? Just curious.

Also, and this is minor, the Verizon text on the back is white where it used to be black.

The HTC One m8 is manufactured in different factories. The gunmetal grey is different shades depending on which factory it was assembled in.

There is a M8 and M8x

The M8x is only sold in Asian countries

The M8x has the 2.46ghz snapdragon 801, that's the only difference

There is the original M8 (4 UltraPixel) main camera, and the new M8 Eye (13 MegaPixel) main camera.
