Was there a "budget"/"value-tiered" model planned?

Yeesh. They made the right choice. I don't like the pricing of a new Moto 360, but I wouldn't have that one at half the price.

Honestly if they could have gotten the price point low enough I could see a market for something like this. I think the main issue with launching something like this now is that they would have had to compete with them selves as the first gen 360s are still readily available and going for around $150 (or less) right now. So not only would they have to meet or beat that price point, they would also have to offer a compelling reason to choose this over the first gen Moto 360. And you can already tell it has less features than a first gen, because due to the watch band design it has obviously lost the HR sensor... So hypothetically why would I buy one of these for $200 when I can pick up a first gen Moto 360 for $150 and have a more stylish watch with more features?

So all that to say I wouldn't be surprised if they have just shelved this idea for now but might dust it off in 6 months or so once the last of the original 360s are completely gone. Honestly it really isn't a bad idea to offer an entry level watch geared more towards a younger more casual audience, especially if it also carries an entry level price.
