Water damage

I have a htc one mini and it has come into contact with water briefly but I mean briefly I had spilled a soft drink on the desk and then quickly retrieved my phone resulting in the screen and the top of the phone to come into contact with the water should I still wait the 48 hour rice method, I am rather impatient and do not like the looks of removing the battery of the htc, So if you can help please do so urgently, Thanks.
