Water Damage?

I just recently upgraded to the LG G5. I was ran into while taking a picture by the lake and the phone dropped in. It took 2-3 minutes for me to find the phone in the water. No, I don't have a warranty on it but is it pricy to repair water damage? I currently have it in a bag of rice hoping for a miracle.

Did it actually die? The most important thing was to pull the battery and not turn it on for a few days

Got it out of the water and it would not unlock so I dried the outside and thenpulled the battery out to dry.

The main thing is to definitely leave it with the battery out, no matter how tempting it is to want to turn it on, for 2-3 days at least. I did read one report, that said air flow is actually more effective than rice. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. However, if you have a hair dryer that has a cool setting, you may want to point it into the battery cavity for a while, and that will help evaporate any leftover water. Don't use a hair dryer that is hot, or that could actually cause heat damage. You should also take the SIM tray out as well just to help with the whole drying out process.

I dropped mine in the sea, and that hasnt recovered - but saltwater is much worse than fresh water. You may get away with it, but you are really in the lap of the gods as to whether it decides to work in a couple of days or not.

In terms of repair, I was told any water damaged phone is deemed beyond economical repair. However, you could of course try replacing any damaged components if you don't have insurance. It all depends on what happens when you turn the phone on, and what works and what doesn't. Fingers crossed for you.

Water Damage Part 2

I'm back from the 2 days of a bag of rice.

I put the battery into my G5 and turned it on, I hear the AT&T generic ringtone but no display. The LED light flashes and such. Where should I go from here? Send it in to a repair shop and get it diagnosed for the damage?

A few years ago I accidentally ran my Droid Max through the clothes washer on heavy duty cycle. I wiped it off and then used a shop vac with a crevice tool to try to pull moisture out of every opening and then I laid it on top of my cars dashboard, in the sun with the windows up for about 6 hours and let it bake. It turned on and everything worked fine.

I dropped mine for about 3 seconds in the bay. Rinsed it quickly in fresh water, removed the battery, left in dry rice overnight. Everything works except for the sound, especially the mic. If I use headphones with a mic, the caller can hear me -- otherwise, silence from my end. Since the mic is in the bottom of the module, is it possible to replace the module? I've been trying to find out but can't seem to find anywhere that sells just the module.

I would imagine LG should be able to sell that as a part.
