Water in/under screen?

Got a new NOOKColor about a week ago. Played with it for a day or two until my Ghost Armor came. I've applied half a dozen skins on other devices (iPod, BlackBerry, cameras, etc.) and have never had this happen. It makes me a little sick. Warranty is probably down the drain due to rooting it (Phiremod 4.1 is sweet).

After applying the skin, I first noticed a large black blotch with the NC powered off. The instant I powered it on and the screen lit up, I noticed at certain angles the cloudy splotches were bright, almost neon. Kind of like ultraviolet. I immediately powered off. Assuming it was water, I stuck the NC in a Ziplock bag with a small amount of rice and a couple silica packets from some new hard drives I had just bought. After a couple days, I noticed a little water clinging to the bag. However, I turned on the NC still in the bag and noticed no improvement, although the cloudy substance seemed to have spread, and the large black blotch seems to be gone completely.

Again feeling like there's no hope, I put tons of rice in the bag, plus all the silica packets I could find at home and at work, and let it sit for a couple days. I just powered it on to see if there was at least some improvement. There isn't.

Is this still water, or has the water dried and what I'm seeing is residue maybe?

Please help. :(

If you would like to try and return your device, you can easily return the device to the stock B&N firmware/ROM and they will be none the wiser. There are lengthly descriptions on how to do this both here and at xda:

Dummies Guide to Fixing 'My Nook Won't Boot' - xda-developers

http://forum.androidcentral.com/bar...turn-your-nook-color-1-1-0-stock-re-root.html

Once back at stock, the guy at the store will have no way of knowing that you ever rooted the device. Hopefully they will be willing to swap yours for a new one.

Cheers.

That's the problem. I didn't buy it directly from B&N. A guy on an online forum I frequent bit on the $200 deal, and he basically opened it and turned it on, then decided he didn't have the time to fiddle with it, so he offered it up for sale and I bought it. I don't know if warranties are transferable, or if he would be able to get it exchanged.

Am I screwed, or is there something I can do about the screen? Anyone know if it's still wet or if it's water spots?

Can you get a copy of the receipt from the guy you bought it from? That "might" be enough.

When you buy the NC, you don't give your name and such. That only happens when you register the device. The device can be registered multiple times and to different people without issue. When you return the NC, they only look at the receipt and verify that the numbers on the device match the numbers on the receipt. I have 3 NC's for my family and have had to return 2 of them for hardware defective issues.

So, as long as you have that little piece of paper and you are within your 30 days, you should be good to go. Of course, for water damage, you might be SOL, but it never hurts to try.

Called B&N's Digital Support and got them to replace it under warranty. They aren't sending me a refurbished unit, are they?
