Water Resistance

I'm one of the ones that needs that protection. I've never yet dropped a phone in water, but if there's anyone who will... I try to always have it in a pocket, etc. that said, I am a water drop waiting to happen.

Used my phone underwater. No issues. They could be sued for false advertising if phones we're getting damaged. They're not stupid, they know by stating the water resistance level that the consumers will try it out. I certainly did. Completely submerged while playing a video lol
Warranty is the covering document. In fact most of the marketing has disclaimers. Read the Note 8 warranty, moisture damage is not covered by the warranty. The only Samsung phones that cover moisture damage are the Active phones.

And even then it's only so long as seals aren't damage and there's no other compromising damage isn't it?

The phone has moisture sensors inside. If the moister sensor is tripped the warranty is invalid. Does not matter if the seals are damaged. Here is the section from the Note 8 Warranty document.

Maintaining Dust and Water Resistance
This device is rated IP68 using the Ingress
Protection rating system. The device has
been tested in a controlled environment
and shown to be water and dust resistant in
certain circumstances (meets requirements
of classification IP68 as described by the
international standard IEC 60529 - Degrees of
Protection provided by Enclosures [IP Code]; test
conditions: 15-35°C, 86-106 kPa, 5.0 feet, for 30
minutes). Despite this classification, the device is
not impervious to water damage in any situation.

It is important that all compartments are closed
tightly.

Note: If any liquid is found to have entered
device components or an internally sealed
system, this condition will void your device
warranty

It's sad that this needs to be explained every time a water resistant phone comes out smh

I bought a water resistant speaker off Amazon and put that in the shower and leave my phone away from the shower and I can still listen to music and control it. There is absolutely no need for me to physically have my phone with me in the shower. I like listening to music while I shower, so the speaker method is the only way I'll do it. I wouldn't think to put my very expensive phone with me in the shower. The phone is NOT rated for running water, as it clearly states so in the IPX68 rating, running currents of any kind can damage the seals of the phone. Just be careful, you keep using it like that and eventually it could become damaged and it would be your fault. I would recommend purchasing a bluetooth speaker.

So no one can or the speaker or phone on the counter? Really?

It’s sad because so many silly people have not a clue and think they can take them swimming and in the shower and taking underwater photos, etc. :-p

The device isn't as fragile to water as some are making it out to be. Yes diving into a pool may not be the best idea but they're pretty resilient. There are dozens of videos testing out the G6 and a myriad of other devices. Here's one that strictly tests the water resistance of the G6. From under a waterfall to getting hosed down with three powerwashers at once. Your shower head has no where near the pressure of a powerwasher. https://youtu.be/ZWJm72Jr4f0

The speaker is water resistant, but it is cheaper to replace. I don't mind spending another $40 for a new one if I have to. I sure as hell am not going to spend another $1000 for a new phone, that's out of the question. I used to have a radio but it broke, so I had to find an alternative. It's louder when the speaker's in the shower so that's where I keep it. It's rated for that, but I would understand if it got damaged due to water and if and when it does, I'll just buy a new one. I've had it for over a year and it's been good. I feel more comfortable with the speaker getting wet than my super expensive phone. I don't have money to waste on paying for a new one or paying for a deductible for a replacement. I already spent a lot of money getting the Note8, I'm not gonna risk it.
