Some of my contacts have an extension number. Is there a way to insert a pause then dial the extension automatically?

every comma between the last digit of the phone number and the extension you want to dial adds a 2-second pause.

Yes, comma, or simply add a p.

This will work with setting up your voice mail too.
Go to Settings > Call > Voicemail settings > Voicemail number
Leave the *86, but add p1234. It will look like this:
*86p1234 (Replace "1234" with your voicemail password).

Next time you call to check voicemail, the code will be entered for you!

Or get Verizon VM, Youmail or Google Voice and you enter it only once to begin with ;) Check out the visual voice mail options they rock!

That's what I do - works like a charm and makes voicemail calling a breeze.

The only drawback I see to this (and it's minor) is that when you dial your VM, your password is displayed on the screen.

I know that generally by that point the phone is probably by your face and the screen is hidden/blanked, but if you're checking via speakerphone it may be a concern for some.

But as others have said this is a great idea and I will definitely be using it.

When you add the "p" to a number, do you have to push a button to continue on, or is this a specific amount of time?

Adding a comma is a telephone-standard 2 seconds. Adding multiple commas will extend the time of the pause (e.g. 3 commas = 6 seconds).

I assume the "p" is treated the same way on a cellular network.

If I'm not mistaken you have three different things you can do there. A "p", ","(comma), or a "w".

P and comma perform the same thing, they perform a pause. With that, you can do for instanc,e your voicemail password "phone#,1234".

A "W" in the command performs a wait, so if you commonly dial into the same prompt system, like a dial in phone directory at someone's office. If you know the first thing it asks is english or spanish you would insert a pause to select 1 for english, then if you always go into the directory which is 3 you would place another pause, but then each time you are wanting to enter an extension to reach someone different, this is where the wait comes in. The wait, does just that waits for you to enter a number. So time for an example.

We will say 1(555)-555-5555 is the directory switch board number.
We want 1 for English
We want to then go 3 for the directory. (4 second pause between questions)
We then want to goto extension #1234

15555555555,1,,3w

It dials goes through the english prompt automatically, then when it says, "Please dial the extension for the person you wish to speak with", the phone will wait, you dial in extension #1234 and your off!

So basically now with that set, you hit the speed dial, wait for it to pause enter 1234 and you're there.

Noone has added this, so I will. If you add a pause and a number like a pw for voicemail, you have to bring the phone away from your face for the tones to go through...at least thats my experience with it.

Interesting.....I can see why though the proximity sensor is disabling the keyboard so it shouldn't register any additional tones without keyboard access. Well that sucks for sure, thanks god I'm a speaker phone freak ;)
