Way to manually run media scanner?

This is a minor gripe. The situation I've been having is this:

My work computer does not like my Samsung Epic. Basically, I cannot mount via USB to the computer. No problem. I just use dropbox, which I have installed on my work PC and also my Epic. As an example, I might see a wallpaper that I like on the PC, so I download it to my Dropbox folder and then access it on my phone. Simple...

Now, when I go to the Gallery to set my new wallpaper, it simply doesn't show up. In fact, the only way to get it to show up in the Gallery, is to unmount, then remount my SD card. Upon remounting, the media scanner runs and then picks up any new media files. However, directly after downloading a file via Dropbox on my phone, it shows up in Root Explorer, and Astro File Manager. Just never shows up in the gallery unless I go through the aforementioned steps. Is there anyway to run the media scanner manually without having to unmount/remount? Or is there a better app out there for viewing images and setting wallpapers?

Widgetsoid will allow you to put a button on one of your homescreens that will initiate the media scan.

I downloaded QuickSSHd from the market and use WinSCP on my computers to access it. Definitely worth the $1.50. After you disconnect it immediately initiates a media scan. It is awesome to use, I highly recommend it. Check it out.

Rescan media for root users. It will start the scanner when you start the app.. but you can also disable it (that's wht I use it for anyway).

cd's or tapes?

Wow guys, thanks for the many suggestions. Don't know what I want to try first!

QuickSSHd looks like a solid choice for using while I'm using my computers at home.

Rescan media or Widgetsoid may be a good solution to when I'm out and about, or at work and decide to download files from my dropbox to my phone.

Thanks a lot!
