Way too many force closes on EC05

I've had my Epic since the beginning of September running DL18 and even though it wasn't running the Froyo I expected it ran smooth. I maybe encountered 3 forced closes since then. About 2 weeks ago I finally got my EC05 upgrade and by far the force update ever. It actually makes in girlfriends Evo look tempting. At times when I open an app the screen goes blank, phone freezes up and goes back to normal about 5-10 seconds later. There's times when this happens about 5 times a day and sometimes twice in a row. Then sometimes when I hit the home button it does that same thing and takes the icons a while to load up. I really don't wanna do a hard reset so has anyone had this problem and got it fixed somehow after updating to EC05.

agreed - happens to mine all the time too now...never before with Eclair, but all the time with Froyo. Thanks Samsung!

I know some people dont like to hear this but.. Consider rooting.. Running some of the custom ROMs out there.. They are very stable, virtually FC free.. Samsung left so many little bugs behind that the devs have come along and fixed its a completely different world running EB13/EC05 custom ROMs.

Do you have enough RAM to run apps? Have you done a system reboot to clean up the RAM? Do you have plenty of device memory? If you installed, and uninstalled a bunch of apps since you got it in September, you probably have a bunch of junk in the device memory. Also, it's possible, the update did not remove some files.

It would be a good idea to do a Hard Reset (factory reset) to clean up the device and get a clean slate. Most of us that did the Froyo update, have good working Epics......

Ok, I'm going to ask what is probably a really dumb question, but bear with me. I'm having all kinds of problems with the Android Market, force closes, and general system stability on my stock Epic with Froyo.

1. If I do a hard reset, how will I get my apps (paid + free) back? Do I have to manually re-download, or will it re-sync them after the reset?

2. Will the hard reset restore my phone to Eclair or Froyo?

3. Will it maintain my files (pics, texts, music, etc)?

Thx.

1. After you do a Hard Reset (factory reset), log back into your Google account to get your Calendar, Contacts and gmail back into your device. You will also regain access to the Market. The Market maintains a list of your paid apps, not your free apps you had installed. Make a list of your free apps, or use MyBackup Pro, or AppBrain or AppMonster. You can manually reinstall or use a backup source. Protected apps cannot be backed up.

2. A Hard Reset will not revert your Epic back to Eclair 2.1 A hard reset will not change the ROM.

3. Your pics and music are by default saved to the card. A hard reset will not delete items on your card. My Backup Pro will backup your data, such as call logs, text messages and mms. There are other apps in the market, that will backup your sms to your card, or to Google, and backup your call logs to your card. Some apps and widgets will backup their own data and settings to your card, for restoration. Some third party launchers, like Go Launcher EX, etc, will have the ability to backup your home screens, wallpaper and their settings.

A restore after a hard reset is fairly painless if you go into it prepared......
