We have a Huawei Mate 9! Ask us anything!

Hi Daniel and Alex, greetings from the UK.

Daniel, just watched you on AAA, great work!

I am a Note 4 user currently and my contract is coming up for renewal in December. I would have stayed Note, but then that thing with the explosions happened and now I can't get a 5.7 inch or bigger phone in Europe that is worth buying i.e a 'flagship'.

So, I've never considered Huawei before, but now it's time to. My questions are:-

1) Have you heard if UK carriers are picking it up? I am on O2, but would change if they don't stock it.

2) Will it be comparable or better on performance from a Note 4?

3) I know very little about this brand, but from AC I know that the interface eapecially notifications suck, is this still a problem on EMUI 5?

4) Any major compromises on the phone you have identified?

Thanks a lot and sorry about the long post

- How is the battery?
- How is the camera? Compared to a 6P? Low light shots?

Any idea of when the phone might be released in the States?

Don't mean to hijack the thread and I'm sure the OP will get back with their answers but I've used the phone for a week now and:

1) Battery life is insane. First phone that lasts me two full days under standard usage
2) Camera in low light isn't as good as the iPhone 7 or the S7/Note 7. At least not in auto mode. With a bit of manual mode tweaking and a steady set of hands, you can get some decent shots.

My review of the phone is at: Huawei Mate 9 specs, price and review | Tbreak

How are the notifications, I used to have a mate 8 and email notifications amongst others, were only received when you woke the phone up, regardless of how you set up the permissions!

It looks to be able to work with any US carrier which is great as I am also on Sprint.
Can't wait for a US release.

Per the Network specs I am finding: GSM / CDMA / HSPA / EVDO / LTE

Wait, so Huawei phones will work on Verizon? I'd never heard that.

That is what I am finding.
They will most likely sell it unlocked on their website and then you can take it to your preferred carrier to activate.
Also, it is a dual SIM device.

I am seeing the 64GB as the only option.
I would wait for the official release before buying anything from them,

Is it possible to adjust vibration intensity?

Not that I was able to find. There ARE a couple tweaks as to WHEN it vibrates, but I saw no way to change the actual vibration intensity, or duration, or anything like that.

BTW I have a Mate 9 also and will attempt to answer questions also. :)

That remains to be seen, however when Huawei announced this processor a few weeks back they mentioned that it carried CDMA capabilities. Just a matter of if they will enable them or not..and then a matter of if verizon and sprint choose to allow it on their networks.

Verizon will, you just have to talk to the right person, probably will require a call to advanced or 2nd tier tech support, OR the store will have to do this or get clever. BUT Verizon by policy DOES allow you to bring your own phone. Sprint likely will NOT allow it, although technically the device probably has the correct networks and bands.

I havent seen any info about the Mate 9 coming to Tmobile. Anyone have any info?

I believe the plan is to sell the Mate 9 direct to the public via Huawei USA, HOWEVER I have a Mate 9 and it's working fine on T-Mobile. No WiFi calling at this time, BUT perhaps when the phone is officially released in the US T-Mobile will push an update?
