This is some awesome news. Will have to try this out when I'm up for the day. Sure hope this leads into a bootloader unlock.

I saw a post on XDA saying it worked with all carrier versions of the phones. Not sure if that's the post that was linked here. Haven't looked at it on my comp yet.

Yup checked and it's all variants. Sweetness. Gonna do this first thing when I have free time today

Be aware that this will likely prevent anyone from using Samsung Pay, even if you return back to being unrooted.

Also, monthly updates will stop once rooted.

My Note 5 was no longer able to run Samsung Pay even when I restored to stock. Security update on that phone is still on December while being rooted. People just need to be aware of these things.

Root is working for the Verizon variant of the S7 edge. You'll need some working knowledge of how to do these sort of things before trying or you'll definitely brick your phone.

I wouldn't root due to Samsung Pay not working. I personally have no real reason/benefit to root.

Same here. For me there is no longer a reason to root any of my phones. I used to root just to block ads in apps and everywhere else on my phone but I use an app that does that now.

I read through the first 25 pages of the XDA thread on this root method and there were a lot of people having trouble. Plus, with the boot loader being locked, you can't run any custom ROMs on the phone.

I dont know why I would root any longer either. I rooted my Nexus 6 and all my other phones before that. I mainly did the 6 to install GravityBox so I could change the colors of the icons on the status bars, and the extended power menu. And also to enable the LED light. But this phone has the light enabled, and the icon colors dont bother me being white. I unlocked the bootloader, but never installed anything outside of stock lol. If anyone has a good reason to really root any more, let me know!

Which app you using to block ads without root?

Adguard. It blocks 100% of all ads in apps and anywhere else. I was using Adaway on my rooted Note 5 and Note 4 but it's started letting a few ads get in here and there.
Sweet, thanks! I am going to give it a try ... HATE dem ads!
