This is just a minor issue, but still is one that I have noticed over the past couple of days. The weather widget on the home screen is not updating even though I have checked that the current setting is to update every hour. As of this point in time, it has not updated since 1AM, Friday, July 13.

When I am at home, I keep the phone on WiFi. When I am out somewhere, I keep WiFi off unless I find an open WiFi that I connect to. I have an unlimited data plan, so I can't imagine that a data limit is keeping the widget from updating.

I know that I can press the refresh button next to the date, but I still would like to know why it's not updating like it should based on the settings.

Some apps remember the data connection, so if you turn the phone on and it connects to wifi, then the weather app runs and updates, it updates on wifi. When you turn off wifi, regardless of anything else, it won't update again until you go back to wifi - or manually update it. (I just had this happen to my local NPR station app when I got home and turned data off because I pick up my wifi as soon as I get to the driveway. No audio until I stopped, they played again.)

I'm not saying that's what's happening in your case (it's been so long since I used the AT&T weather app that I can't even remember which weather service they use), but it could be. Do some checks. If you updated it and it's on wifi, leave it on wifi until the next scheduled update. That may show you what's happening. (Or it may still not update and there's some other problem. I use Accuweather, and the widget doesn't update any more, but I still haven't found a replacement that I like.)

I should probably clarify that this weather widget is the default Samsung widget on the S8 home screen.

It updated just after I posted my original message and that was the last update even though the phone was on my home wifi for several hours.

Yeah, I noticed the same. I have to update it manually. WiFi on or off doesn't make a difference. Stock Samsung weather widget.
The Netherlands.

"update" I changed the time interval and now it's working again. I have a feeling that some updates make certain apps fail in their behaviour. Reinstalling it or applying the settings again, sometimes wakes the app up.

I don't see any time interval setting on mine. I have auto-sync on, I'm in WiFi all day, I've reinstalled the widgets (Samsung and AccuWeather) repeatedly.

Would be nice to just look at the phone and see the weather, as promised.

I have noticed it too. Its been going on for a while. Its not related to wifi, as i leave it on all the time. Minor annoyance, but an annoyance.

I 1st noticed this on April 1st when t-mobile put out the update for android version 9. I also have a Samsung S8 and no wheather widgets were updating most the time not even manually under any circumstances. I purchased and S8+ and they worked fine. I have been dealing with this for over 5 months and just received another Samsung S8 that has the exact same issue as my 1st. So it is not the phone as the widget worked fine with the older version of android. It also messed up my Bluetooth and Play Store functions. This is an on going problem that Google, Samsung and your Carrier are not fixing you need to call them as many times as it takes until they fix it. I hope this gives you some insight of the h*** that I went through Trying to figure out why this was happening. I should also mention the clock would not even sync with the phone clock in the upper left hand corner on version 9 also known as pie.
