Website using LOTS of system resources :(.

I access AC from my work desktop and home laptop. Both computers show a lot of RAM usage (around 228MB for one tab on Chrome, twice what other tabs draw), and within 3 or four minutes of being on the site on my laptop, my CPU goes to almost 100% usage, and freezes my browser until I kill the AC tab through Task Manager . My desktop runs on an SSD, has more RAM, and a faster processor, so doesn't lock up like my laptop, but still takes a CPU hit. Android Central is the only website that freezes up Chrome on my laptop, and I can see has some, though a lesser effect on my desktop. This has been happening for around two months, but didn't before that (never happened when I joined last July). I was getting a little stuttering a while back, but that stopped when I disabled Flash.

Not sure what you guys run that could be giving me so much trouble. Any ideas?
Thanks

Anyone? I'm noticing my work desktop starting to stutter more on AC as well, though not as bad as my laptop. CPU usage goes to 100%. Other websites don't seem to give me these kind of issues.

I often get very jerky scrolling with the AC website on my Nexus 5. Like I'll drag my finger upwards and a second later the site flicks upwards. Something is definitely taking up resources.

Moderator or site administrator have any ideas? I'm able to type this from my laptop, but usually within a few minutes the CPU will max out and I have to close the AC tab with Task Manager to keep my browser from locking up.

Edit: An extra Chrome instance running 99% CPU seemed to kick on a couple minutes after I first open Android Central. In the two cases that occurred when I first logged on this morning, I shut them down with WTM. In the 30 minutes since I closed the last one, I have NOT had another one kick on and freeze my browser. This only happens when visiting AC. VERY strange!

Chances are it's a bad ad causing the grief here. If you're able to spot or find any specifics that'd be extremely helpful. Need more to go on than 'your site is slow' :)

If we can recreate the issue, we can fix - and I want to fix this for you!

Not quite sure I can narrow down to exactly which ad, but I'll try and notice if I see a particular one pop up, followed by the symptom. As I type this, my CPU usage isn't going nuts yet, but the RAM used is easily 100K MB more any of my other open tabs (Outlook and My Yahoo home page, which I realize don't have a lot of ads). I'm also going to see if I can get to the bottom of it from a hardware point of view. Maybe there is something making it difficult for my computer to handle it.

Jeeze, an ad for "Cloud That Breaks the Boundries of Performancs", by "Softlayer (an IBM Company)" in in three spots along the right column at the moment...guess they really want to get noticed!

Funny this thread is here right now. I was going start one. This site is the slowest loading on all my computers (windows) and on my Nexus 7. I was going to ask about browser settings, but maybe it is about use of resources. I would like to know if here is anything I can do to speed things up.

iv been getting the same thing, its all the spammed ads they have on here, way to many, if it was my forum id only have them on the first page of a thread and all the other oages clear, but anyway to solve the same problem you are having of it getting so bad that it crashes then get ad blocker plus just the free version will do as its made the pages load a lot faster now and it also not copursing such a high usage, and im still seeing all the ads on the forum so its not going to take revenue away from android central using the ad blocker plus.

I only got halfway through reading your post when my browser froze
I thought Chrome already had an Ad Blocker built in, but apparently not...I just installed AdBlocker Plus and it seems to be just the trick - thanks for the great sugggestion :D.

Well aside from the ads being out of control, the bloat in the page itself, all of mobile nations really, has gotten really bad. I avoid using a PC unless it's just something I can't do from Tapatalk (like upload high quality pics). I just installed ABP yesterday for the same reason - something I didn't want to do, but I just couldn't take it any more. I hate to say it guys, but you need to streamline the site big-time, and cut the number of ads by a lot!

Ad blocker definitely helped, but agree it's too bad the site has so much advertising running.

I was having the same problems (this site is super slow on all devices I view it on). I just installed Ad Blocker for Chrome on my desktop, and it made a huge difference. Much better.

Need to see if I can install an ad blocker on my ipad also, as it is really slow on the ipad, and that's what I use most often to view this website.

Installed an ad blocker on my ipad last night, and again, a dramatic difference.

It appears that if you want to view this site on a device, you need to have an ad blocker installed.
