Week and a half old S7 Edge screen spontaneously cracked along the volume button?

I switched to T-Mobile and activated my S7 Edge less than a month ago. I almost immediately noticed a shallow semi-circular chip missing from the front glass right above where the "edge tool" displays, but convinced myself it had something to do with the design of the phone until I saw another device in a store with perfect glass.

Here is a picture. I lit up the screen to try to show the entire defect, but it's not the greatest picture.

I've also posted a picture here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n4mgv6t2gd845jm/phonescreen.jpg?dl=0

I have not dropped or otherwise banged up the phone and I'm pretty sure the phone came out of the box this way.

Any opinions on whether a manufacturing defect could cause something like this? It's not a crack, but a clean piece of glass missing, and how I might persuade my carrier to replace it with a new device?

Thanks!

Has anyone had ANY luck in Samsung replacing this defective screen without cost?

Last week my week 1/2 old phone cracked while I was laying at the pool. I did not drop it, I honestly believe it was due to the excessive heat outside (90's). I had been using my phone off and on all day and no cracks. Towards the end of the day, I picked up the phone which I had set down about 15mins before, and the screen was cracked.

I took it into T-Mobile and explained my issue and the rep said he could tell it definitely wasn't cracked due to being dropped. He said it was in perfect condition, not even a scratch. He told me T-Mobile will have to charge me the insurance deductible and to try and get it replaced through Samsung.

Well, called Samsung and they won't recognize that it is a defect and will charge for a repair. My next option is to try to go into the Samsung Walk In store this week and see if they will replace it, but I highly doubt it. Only thing that sucks is that I am using this phone until the Note 7 comes out. I hate to pay all that money for a phone I am not even going to keep :(

I have had this phone about a week and a half. It has never been dropped, thrown, or been through any kind of pressure. Not a single scratch on it. It has never been out of the otterbox until after the occurrence, when we were trying to figure out what the heck happened.
The phone was simply sitting next to me on the computer table. I picked it up to check my texts, set it back down with not roughness. Not two minutes later I picked it up to check a new text and there is was. It's spider-webs out just along the edge, starting from the bottom volume button (that I did not even touch in the last hour or two). It looks like pressure was put on it in a very tiny spot there, which makes no sense. It was there with nothing on it.
We're not sure if it's the otterbox, or something defective on the phone screen? Either way, someone is gonna fix this. I did nothing to cause it, it's my birthday present, my love pays a lot for this thing, and his brother even passed up an upgrade opportunity to ensure I could get it!
What is the best way to handle this? Has it happened with anyone else? I got the phone, otterbox and insurance through Verizon on a plan several years running. Who do I contact or expect to help with this? Samsung? Verizon? Otterbox? I don't know! I've never had this happen before, and my anxiety is going insane mode with me being lost on figuring it out!

Uggh I have the same problem, after only having the phone for 2 weeks. Then about a month later I went to the beach and it cracked more without even dropping it. Samsung told me it will cost $237 to fix it....

I have had 3 S7 Edge phones. All three have cracked on me without a single drop. 2 were replaced with Insurance claims. Since you can only do 2 claims within 12 months with SPP, I'm going to have live with this one. I'm not going to replace it with another Samsung.

I am going to have togive all you doubters one better. With MUCH RELUCTANCE I finally traded in my S4 due to the fact it was running so terrible, would not upgrade anymore, etc...Anyways, a girl I work with has the S6 Edge and I liked it so when I finally broke down and upgraded, or should I say 'downgraded?' I decided on the S7. Now keep in mind, I had encouragedone my son to get one and couple of months earlier. He was having no issues at all with his. Anyways, my husband and I both traded our S4'site in for the S7's. Mine got SO HOT it would shut down so I had to take it back. This was less than a month after I got it. When I got the 2nd one activated, refurbished of course, which is a crock. Anyways, I got it activated, all the data transferred, the next day I was putting the expensive case on it I purchased with the first one, and it CRACKED!!! I AM P!SSED! I am the IT Administrator at a school. I deal with 400 student iPad so which I have put cases on so I know how to CAREFULLY put cases on these devices. And Verizon or Samsung neither one want to make it right. I do believe I will file a complaint with the BBB against both of them. I have not even had these phones for 2 months and do not see why I should have to pay a $200 insurance deductible..bullcrap..

I wonder, did anyone that's had a screen crack have a screen protector? I currently have an OtterBox Alpha Glass tempered glass and I'm hoping I won't see any spontaneous or otherwise cracks.

I tell you, between this thread and the thread about paint peeling off of the home button it's worrying me for the longevity of my device.

Yes it definitely happens! Had mine plugged into the charger, set it on the table,
Came back 30 minutes later and hello a hairline Crack across the screen!!!

The same thing happened to my S8. I managed to use it ok for a time, knowing it would be hard to prove I hidden do the damage myself. But then after about 12 months of use the phone went dead. I tried the three button reset, even plugging power in did not work. I rang samsung they said I'll have to pay to replace the screen even if the phone was dead. They said I would cost $150. But after I drove about an hour to get to the service center. They told me it would cost $250. To fix thier bad design It was going to cost me more that the phone is worth. Samsung was neither helpful or apologetic. I left leaving the brick on the counter.
