Weird brightness issue with stock mail client. [SOLVED]

I have this weird brightness issue that started today on the stock mail client. Whenever I go into the mail client on the main page and if I open an e-mail the brightness on the display actually goes down, I do not have auto brightness and the actual brightness slider doesn't move since I am at 1% brightness before I launch the app (and I have display brightness and that doesn't change). Even in the settings menu of the mail client the brightness jumps back to normal. I have tried a battery pull, I uninstalled Display Brightness app, this only started today and it's driving me nuts.

When I go into the mail client I can actually see the status bar get dimmer, when I go into the settings the brightness goes up, including in the status bar.

So it turns out it was because I was in power save mode. I don't remember enabling it but I tried a few tests and power save does seem to make some of the screens dimmer.

This was also a problem for me on the Note 2. Thanks for the solution. I should say that it is specifically the "change background colour" setting of the power save mode that seems to do it. So you could keep power save mode on and just untick that option.
