Just bought myself a Galaxy S6, have owned several Android devices and I still own a Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 tablets but I have never come across this particular notification icon.

It seems to be related to the call settings put in place by my operator but going through these does nothing for me. I first thought it is WiFi calling but that is off, turning it on however doesn't add any new notification/status icons though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Alex

Alex, that icon typically just means you are ON a call. It shouldn't be there otherwise....

Thank you mhinc,

This is what I thought at first and it was the main reason for my freaking out but it turns out it's not the case.

See in the screenshot above, the icon on the far left is the one that indicates I'm on a call, then right next to the unidentified icon I have the speakerphone indicator, which rules out those two.

The only way this icon is not present is when I make modifications inside of call preferences (like disabling, enabling call waiting or just querying for these by browsing through the menu). This is what leads me to believe it's an operator related setting but they claim not to know anything about it. Moreover I've gone through the different applications and processes I have running by force-closing each of them. Soooo... kinda in the dark with this still.

Hearing aid compatibility mode maybe?

Well? Did you figure it out, inquiring minds need to know. You got me curious now.

It's the VoLTE icon. Go to dialer, settings and you can't toggle on/off. I keep it off because I'm on t-mobile and I find it not very reliable.
