Weird Net10/Straight Talk experience

Being a new Nexus 4 owner, I picked ATT GoPhone just to get the phone up and running. After searching around, I finally found a Net10 SIM card package at Walmart a few weeks ago. Now having already paid for a month on ATT, I decided to wait until the end of my service period before porting my number over to Net10.

Thursday night, I opened the Net10 packaging and looked through all of the Net10 documentation that came with the kit. I called the Net10 phone number to start the process of porting my number over from ATT. Imagine my surprise when the Net10 Rep told me that based off of the IMEI number for the micro SIM, the micro SIM was not a Net10 micro SIM. She flat out stated that the IMEI number I gave her is for a Straight Talk SIM and there is no way she could do anything for me besides order me a new Net10 micro SIM or transfer me to a Straight Talk Rep. She repeatedly asked me why I was calling Net10 when I had a Straight Talk SIM card. I explained to her that the SIM came in a Net10 kit. She didn't come out and call me a liar, but I don't think she believed me.

Anyway, I decided to have her transfer me to a Straight Talk rep. I didn't want to wait for a Net10 SIM card to be delivered as my ATT service was ending in a few days. Straight Talk had no problems getting me up and running. As soon as I created a new APN for Straight Talk and deleted the ATT APN, I was good to go.

Has anyone else had this issue happen to them? I figured I'd post this in case anyone else runs into this problem.

You're a lucky winner, Tom.

ST doesn't distribute AT&T compatible SIMs right now. Guess you found the back door.

That is one odd occurrence. Maybe AT&T diverted what would have gone to ST over to Net 10 for SIM supply and nobody switched numbers in the database? IDK, that's a head-scratcher.

That's what I was thinking, too! I was surprised at how painless the whole thing went.
