I'm not an expert on the technological possibilities for scammers, but I figure this particular attempt may have just been rolling through numbers sequentially with a spoof that matches the outgoing number. It's probably not that anyone knows it's your number specifically.
I do know I get a lot of scam calls from my own area code. The attempt is to make the number look like one you know, or might know. I suppose they're hoping a lot of people don't know their number these days. My daughter, who is almost 14, asked us hers the other day. She's on her phone nearly constantly.
