Weird Shut-off problem

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

Omgggg!! It is the power button!!! I just went to clean the power button & my galaxy note one turned on fully after just doing small vibrates & having the samsung logo come up then shut off!!! Very frustrating but glad to know it was just the power button sticking!!!!!!

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

This is a common problem with the Samsung phones that use micro smd power switches. the best fix is to have the button replaced, but a good temporary solution is to clean the switch with some 80% alcohol or acetone.

I have repaired over 30 Samsung phones with this problem, all models from the note to the s3.
give it a few months and we'll start seeing the newest models all having this issue.

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

So I have a Motorola Motoluxe,it's insured and it has been turning off randomly, the sound no longer works unless you have headphones on (meaning the phone only vibrates when there's an incoming call), the phone back is loose and no longer stays on, my camera goes blank and says "cannot to camera", I can only do voice notes once in a while because of the phone messing around. I love my phone though it can get me really mad. Does anyone know how long it takes t-mobile/EE to fix it? If they might erase everything and if I get a replacement does that mean I'd have to get contacts and app all over again?

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

I'm having this exact problem. How exactly to fix this problem. I simply cant use my power button to screen shoot or turn off my screen without turning it off. It all srartestarted last night. I've read some of other posts and I really do think that its the "sticky power button" issue. If that is the case, how can I fix that? My warranty expired a couple months ago so please Im in need of your assistance.

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

I think I found an odd yet effective, temporary/lasting fix... I'll know as my day progresses. Lemme give you the info:

I got my Samsung Galexy S2 Epic 4G several months ago, around April 2013 and it's run like a dream. In the last month or so, I found a particular APP that takes a lot of processing power and made my device heat up for extended durations of use (its a gaming APP). It was after using this APP for a couple of weeks that my GS2 started having all the symptoms all of you are having... So I got my phone replaced with a replacement of the same model, and this one even had the JellyBean update. Redownloaded all my apps, continued playing my game, replacement overheated one time, and a week or two after the replacement ALSO starts having power button failure. I raged and searched for answers online of what Samsung/Sprint/AT&T have said about this and I have found no reasons at all.

I think now I know why.

The overheating threw me off. I assumed that it was the new app was to blame for overheating my motherboard and damaging it, not thinking that if the motherboard was damaged the whole phone would go down: a motherboard is a circuitboard, and if one component throws off the flow of electricity, the whole thing goes down.

Just before I started having the power button issues, I recently got a job at Home Depot, working in the Garden Department. Naturally, I keep my phone in my pocket, Otterbox protecting it.

Well the gel part of my otterbox has been worn down over the months and has allowed some parts of the phone to be exposed...

The excess debris from my job just may of found its way into my pockets and into the fairly delicate crevices of my device...

And my blowing air straight at the power button while pressing it as fast as possible suddenly allows me to lock my phone normally, hold and turn it off as normal, and in general stopped it from turning my phone off repeatedly.

The reason there is no solid answer for this is because it depends on what size debris is stuck inside and if it can be dislodged or not. Worked for me- Goodluck everyone

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

It's the power button - they get "stuck" internally, although you can't tell from looking at it. The quickest fix is to remove the back cover, take out the screws and separate the connection. Otherwise, there are several merchants on ebay where you can buy a new power button for about $10 and replace it. If you have insurance on it, drop it in a toilet and file a claim.

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

hi i also have the same problem. this stared around 3 days ago first my the first day my phone kept turning on and of i thought is i charged it it might work but noting happened. i told some of my friends on Facebook if they knew what was wrong with it they said maybe it was the battery that it was to hot and i should leave it to rest for a day i did that but the same thing kept happening i tried turning it on but it wouldn't turn on when i tried to make it turn on so i left it on the charger for a few mins and when i got back and took it off from the charger it still wouldn't turn on and it wasn't turning on and off anymore so i i put it on the charger and it started turning on and off again this, i was getting scared so i tried to rest it but i could only do it with the charger on. when i tried to reset it it didn't work but when i placed the phone back on it charger it still kept turning on and off but when it turned on half of the screen would turn on( it would turn on but not full it just went a bit) so i thought maybe it was still working...

Have the power switch replaced. You may be able to get away with having it cleaned only. A couple of outfits are mentioned in this thread that can do this on a send-away basis. There may be someone local to you. I sent my phone to Cell Phone Repair Pros; they are based in the United States.

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

I had the same problem, had the power button replaces, cleaned battery terminals. And the only thing that fixed it was to wedge a piece of paper to make the battery have tighter fit

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

My phone is doing the same exact thing, Did you ever figure out what was wrong or how to fix it?
Please Help!

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

If you read the thread, you will find that the vast majority of people's problems were solved by the replacement of the power switch. For a few, cleaning the switch contacts solved the issue but some of these people ultimately had to replace the power switch to completely solve the problem. For at least one, it seemed that the issue was caused by a loose battery connection.

For that last one, I could see how that could cause the phone to power off but a problem with the power switch causes the phone to cycle off and on so I am not sure if that person had multiple issues.

Hope this helps.

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

Mine is doing the same thing and has been for a while, today it turned off 4 times in the span of a half hour. I know it isn't the power button because it doesn't happen to anything related to the button. I've replaced the battery and taken it in for inspection and nothing, I'm thinking of just waiting it out and getting a new phone.

P.S I have the GS2

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

I found the answer to this problem everyone! This site won't let me post the url to the video that solved my vibrating shutting off problem so I will try to explain it. Turn the phone off & remove the battery. On the top of the battery where the gold bars are, gently scrap them & around them to remove residue. Also gently scrape the gold prongs that the battery connects to to power your phone to remove residue. I did it to mine and it worked the first time. My phone has no shut off since. Then replace the battery & voila! Hope you all understand this & hope it fixes it! Good luck!

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem

I have been having the same problem with my note and here is how I fixed it. Take out the battery and find the power button. Then bang the power button fairly hard three times and put the battery back in and it should work

Re: Wierd Shut-off problem-SOLVED

Hi Everyone,
I had this same problem for some days now. My Samsung Galaxy S2 Lte was vibrating every 2 seconds. Was not turning on, if it would then just for a brief moment the first screen would come up and a line would appear and screen would go black and it would start vibrating again. It was exactly the problem what everyone has written here.
I opened back cover, remove the small seven screws. This guy on You tube tell you how to open it. 'Samsung Galaxy S2 disassembly for repair'
I dipped ear bud in nail polish remover and cleaned the start/off button. Little bit of nail polish remover went inside the button too. it took about on1 to two minutes, all this time i was pushing the start/off button. What ever dust or anything that was sticking inside got cleaned. I kept it open for about 10 minutes so that nail polish remover evaporates completely. Now i put sim card inside and the phone i working perfectly fine for past half an hour. No vibration, no issue at all. If any issue comes up I will post it.
thx
