I accidentally dropped my S4 into a bowl of soup yesterday. My phone was sitting on the arm of the chair beside me and without paying attention to what I was doing I knocked it off abd into my bowl. I saw it as it fell so I was able to pull it out quickly. It only got wet on the very bottom where the charging port is up to the home button. I turned my phone off and took the backing off and took out the battery. I put it in a bag of rice after drying it thoroughly. I turned it on maybe 30 minutes ago and everything works perfectly fine except it won't charge. It still has a charge from yesterday so I could use it if I wanted but the phone doesn't even acknowledge that it is plugged into my charger. I believe it is just the charging port because the battery did not get wet and the water damage indicators show no damage. The phone is back in a bag of rice with the battery taken out. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, the soup was a brothy potato soup. Not very thick at all.

Hard to say. Soups will have greases, and if it was a mass produced one, salt as well. I am honestly not sure what to suggest.

You could try rubbing alcohol with the battery out, but still no guarantee. How long before you can upgrade or can you do a warranty claim?

I just got the phone last month so it will be quite awhile before an upgrade comes along and I'm not sure about a warranty. Will rubbing alcohol further damage the charging port? Thank you.

Rubbing alcohol is often used to clean electronic parts, so probably not. Even if it could, I don't think you could damage it more than it already may be.
