Whaddo I need to know? Switching from iOS to Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Hey all,

So the last time I used an Android for any legnth of time was the Note II. Since then I've been pretty steady with iOS/Apple. I've flittered with the odd Android but only temporarily. Bot now that's changing again. I'm coming back, and to the Note 8. I'm certain this time I won't come back because I absolutely hate what's happened to iOS over the last couple of years.. You know the drill. Anyway, a thing I need to know before I make the switch for good is;

How easy is it to get iTunes stuff onto the Note 8? Will I have to use some awful third party app? I have a MacBook. I've made far too many TouchID purchases because it was easy and only now do I semi regret it.

If this has been asked before then please link me up, but I couldn't see for searching. It's the only thing I'm worried about, as I know in the past Samsung/Androids in general haven't had a good syncing relationship with iTunes.

I may be wrong but I THINK there is a iOS to android app in the play store now. You might start with that.

First, though, remove your phone number from iMessage, or you'll never get your texts. (And tell all your iPhone friends that before you can get a text from them, they have to mark the first one they send you SMS.)

Other than that, you know Android. It's changed (not always for the better), but there's not much anyone can tell you, except to read the book and learn how you can use the SPen - that's a bit different now. (Same writing, but there are a few things added.)

Oh, and you can do split screen, have 2 apps running on screen at the same time. You can make the keyboard small and tuck it in one of the lower corners (not really "tuck", it's not that small, but smaller).

And iSyncr: iTunes to Android will sync your iTunes.

I would search YouTube in the AC channel and Android Authority both have some amazing videos..they maybe a year or so old but are still very relative to now

Before switching, disable iMessage.

Upload all of your music to Google Play Music.

Backup all of your photos to Google Photos (let them do compression).

All purchased apps will need to be purchased again.

Do not move any of your itunes stuff to google. You want to be in control of your content.

First of all use Samsung smart switch to move any non-drm music and movies. I used winx mediatrans to move the rest.

Easy and I was very pleased with the results

You can do it for free for about 100,000 songs I believe. Once you log into Google Play music on your Note, you'll see your music and playlists there and you can stream it. You also have the option to download playlists if you want locally to your phone.

You can also use the Samsung sidesync or smart switch apps to transfer your music for playback on the stock music app.

There is also an Apple Music App for Android if you're a subscriber.

That's what I've found so far, as a previous iPhone user myself. I think music transfer should be something that is emphasized by Samsung in order to get people to switch, but you have to research it a bit for some reason.

You don't even have to move your music from Apple Music, just download the Apple Music app from the playstore on your phone, sign in with you apple ID and whala....all your music is there

Thanks for the info. I remember split screen on the Note II was incredibly nifty if a total power hog. I’m looking forward to that again but better. Will check out the app too.

I won't be using Google Music. The idea is good but I used it before when I last switched from iOS to Motorola X Play and tbh I'm not keen on paying 9.99 a month just to listen to music when I don't have to. Most of my stuff is already backed to Google already, and the apps aren't an issue - they're cheap + I'm not sure I've ever paid for anything outlandish anyway. Thanks tho!

Now fortunately nothing paid for through iTunes is DRM protected anymore, and if it is if just redownload it, it comes back non-drm. But I'm still sorta wondering if that's able to be read by Samsung/Android but I'll certainly check out the wares, thanks!

'Tis 50,000 (or at least in UK) but I'm hoping to avoid Google Music. It's not the best of apps. I'll check out SideSync tho! I completely forgot Apple Music was on Android now. I don't generally use the subscription service but otherwise good shout. I totally agree with the point tho, Samsun really are missing a trick as I'm certain enough people hate iOS now that if they knew it was easy to get out the ecosystem, they would.

I still buy songs from iTunes - mind you the last time I had an iPhone was back when iPhone 5 was released. Anyway, what works best for me on transferring from iTunes to my Note8 is Smart switch. I downloaded the app on my MacBook Pro and just transfer my files to the appropriate folder. I've been doing it this way since I had the S7 Edge
