What about the Htc knight/speedy/evo shift 4G? Is it real? When?

o man, I can't wait to see the actual device being released to for GSM networks like HTC usually does so I can go buy it when I get back to Thailand to convert from my HTC Touch Pro into android!

Its already released for GSM, its the same as the G2 on t-mobile.

Well it doesnt look like anyone has made a rom out of it yet and im home now. But i guess theres no point in it now that we know it just has the same old sense :'(

I'm just happy to see this thing exist, and with 4G to boot! My upgrade is in august, otherwise id get it but by the time august rolls around there will be something better anywho :p

And i could care less about sprint ID, id get rid of it in a heartbeat anyways lol. But the new sense adds alot :/

huh? under what name?
the G2 has a completely different hinge system. The knight/speedy is different from the G2 otherwise it would've been called the desire Z not the Epic shift 4G.

Wrong, it would not have been called the desire Z thats its world phone cousin. Carriers like to name everything differently even if they are the same thing. (I'm looking at you LG optimus T,S,U/Vortex)

Besides, we dont even know what this wil be called yet could be the Speedy/Knight/ or Evo Shift 4G.
Who knows.

The merge, desire Z, G2, and this are all basically the same phone. With minor differences, like sense, no sense, hinge, FFC, etc. but they all have the same chipset, keyboards and most other hardware.

well you just said it was already released in gsm form, but the closest one to it is the desire Z which it isn't.
The EVO Shift 4G was just another of the supposed name that it's rumored to be called. whatever it is called, knight/speedy/evo shift 4g/etc etc, it still isn't released for the rest of the world. If this is right, then this is the keyboard variant an offshoot of an Evo (not an evo, but similar)

EDIT: I'm looking for the actual GSM version of this phone, not the cousin.

You're talking in circles. The "actual" gsm version wouldn't exist since it's gsm, not cdma. You won't get exact. Want proof? Look at all the desire z roms that have been ported to the g2. T-Mo just didn't want it to have sense because it was the follow up to the g1. Proc, screen, internals are the same (except for storage).

Want more proof? Read the stories about production errors giving the g2 the incorrect amount of internal memory.

Cousins are cousins. Android doesn't have siblings. :p

BTW, this will be more similar if not almost identical to the G2, merge, desire z family. It wont be like the evo at all except for the 4G, its just a marketing strategy for sprint if its named the evo shift 4G. Much like the droid line of phones on verizon.

What I'm understanding from the rumors about this particular phone that has yet to be released is that it is going to have the looks of the Evo with a qwerty keyboard.
Judging from the picture, it is not the Desire Z or any of its cousin.
Lastly, from what I heard, they said it was going to Sprint and i'm pretty sure they're a CDMA company hence why I said I can't wait for the GSM version of the phone.
as far as I know, from not just android central, but sites like engadget and bgr, the rumored spec is possibly very different from the desire Z.
I'm not sure how i'm talking in circles when I've started with saying I can't wait for the gsm version of the phone, then stated my opinion that it probably is not the desire Z because of the physical difference, and finally I said that the name is just, a name, there is no set in stone name for it yet.
If it is the G2/Desire Z, then wouldn't it be the exact same phone and this would not be news?
How I understand this is that, this is a new phone that is an offshoot of the Evo, not the Desire phones.
All I know is that, if the specs that are rumored do happen to be true, I'll be waiting to pick it up when it is released for the rest of the world since this particular one is the Sprint version of the phone. (which means it'll either be a world phone or a pure CDMA phone)

EDIT: well, igotsanevo4g, you're confusing me now. so even though this phone is physically different from the Desire series, (atleast based on the ROM Image and case details), it will be almost identical to the G2?

The only thing physically different is the outer case, sprint wants to make it look like the evo to go along with the evo.

The G2/desire z dont look like the merge yet they have the same chip set. Riddle me that.

You are saying you want and IDENTICAL phone like this but with a GSM radio and such? Or you can grab the desire Z which i can guarantee is same phone in essence. Why would HTC build another phone from the ground up, just for one carrier when they already have a great thing going with the G2/desire Z line of phones? They wouldnt.

It would already be released or close to being release like the G2, Desire Z and merge BUT sprint wanted a WiMax 4G radio in there. WIN.

Ah ok, so that explains it much better. I do apologize if i sound stubborn. I'm waiting for an android phone with a nice qwerty keyboard to replace my old dying HTC Touch Pro. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about android without handling one until I can find what I want.
The main thing for me was that I personally did not like the Z hinge and I am currently eyeing either this phone or the merge (based on the preview video of the merge, it will have a strong sliding hinge much like my touch pro). Since the merge is going to verizon, I assume that HTC will usually do what they do and have a non carrier modified version of the phone that will be sold worldwide.
all in all, i'm just waiting for the right android phone that fits my personal preference which currently is either the Knight or the Merge (in GSM obviously)

WOOT.

I cant wait for this thing, but my upgrade is in august. Who knows what will be out then LOL.

Have you tried the desire z hinge? Its not as bad as i thought it was after holding it and flipping it around.

Htc shift 4g! How does it compare?

WHAT ARE PROS AND CONS OF THE NEW HTC SHIFT IN YOUR EYES?
will it compete with other elite smartphones??

pros For me the screen is a pro as the 3.7 inch screen is much more manageable then the 4.3 on the evo.

cons not having ffc is a con for me also i wonder of the keyboard is going to make it extra bulky? of if they are going to fit it in nicely!

so WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF THE 800mhz processor????
since secong gen does this make it better then 1st gen 1ghz on evo??

please put in yuor inputs im looking for advice!
or should i simply wait for another sprint htc?

If you like physical keyboards then go for it the processor is very good I don't know what sprint has in store but for 150 this looks like a good buy

EVO4G $99 bucks at the Shack

I think Radio Shack is trying to blow through older EVO inventory so they can start selling the EVO shift on the 9th as in the ad image that has been going around. So far no employees I spoke with would fess up about even knowing the phone exists

I haven't followed this thread in such a long time so I didn't see your reply.
Yes I have tried out the G2 about a week or so after the last time I was on this thread. I played with it for about an hour. It was ok, but I still had several instances when the screen will snap down on me while I'm typing on it (i was holding it at a slight angle with the top (screen part) pointing away from me). i like the phone overall, but the hinge and its tendency to be a little "reactive" was a deal breaker for me. I'm currently on the hunt for either the Shift 4G or Merge. If HTC does release either of those versions world wide in their own form (so I'm assuming HTC Knight (for shift 4g) and Lexicon (for merge))
