What Android watch to get?

For rugged, there is only one Android Wear watch that has a sapphire crystal, and that's the Huawei Watch. The others use glass or plastic.

I already ordered a Sony 3, it looked like the thinnest of them all. I already have a Galaxy Gear1 and the S2 looks pretty much the same, and kind of thick.

If the Sony 3 does not hold up, I will make one of the other 2 my next watch.

I have a Smartwatch 3. It is a great watch and the only major drawbacks is the damned micro USB connector, which while very common is a pain to open.

So I got the smartwatch 3, and in comparison to my old Galaxy Gear1, I must say I like it a lot more, thinner, lighter and it runs Android instead of Tizen.

I am not having no problem with the USB connector, my fingernail opens it just fine.

It pushes out all notifications, except for alarms, I am using Cyanogenmod 12.1, so I am happy besides that, I can also use the phone alarms instead.

I've had the Sony SW3 since it first came out. I love everything about it, except that wireless charging would be nice. I've worn it hiking, running, exercising at the Y, etc. It has no scratches at all. The screen glows in bright sunlight - no problem outdoors. I have the lime green band, which I like the best. It is split lengthwise for ventilation, is infinitely adjustable and has a metal clasp that snaps shut. Metal or leather bands bug me. They always seem too tight or too loose and get sweaty. If Sony came out with an SW4 that was exactly the same but with wireless charging, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I was eagerly awaiting the Moto 360 Sport as a possible replacement, but it is too inferior to the Sony to get it just for wireless charging.

Has anyone considered the Fossil Q founder...I had the Huawei , now have the Fossil...still trying to decide which I like better?
The Q is also $50 less a,d the ss band is really nice looking?

I've got the fossil. What I like the most about it is that it doesn't look like a smart watch at first glance. I'd say the biggest downer is the fossil app....it's garbage. That said, you don't even need it as everything runs thru the android wear app

Hi all, sorry to hijack/resurrect this thread.

I've currently got an iPhone 6S Plus and Apple Watch and have today ordered a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and wanted some advice as to a good smart watch to go with it, it doesn't necessarily have to be a Android Wear smart watch though.

The main thing I use my Apple Watch for is:
1 - discreetly knowing I have new notifications
2 - being able to quickly read and respond to text messages
3 - checking the time

I have absolutely no experience of any smart watches for Android. Can you recommend any good resources for learning more about the differences and can anyone make any recommendations as to a good smart watch?

All the android wear watches will give discreet notifications by vibration.
You can read texts, not sure if you can respond never tried it?
They all read time, my Sony SW3 displays time continuously if you have it set that way, and I can get up to 3 1/2 days of battery life doing so.

So what made you decide to leave Apple?

We could steer you better if we knew what you preferred - jewelry or practicality, male or female (for size and style), for sports?, for use outdoors?, GPS?, wireless charging?, longer battery life?, Android Wear?, NFC? These are some of the criteria that distinguish one smartwatch from another. If you prioritize these according to what you'd like, we can be more helpful.

Checked out the SW3 and it looked pretty good and a decent price as well.

Decided to leave Apple since me and my wife recently bought Tab S2s and were really impressed, the Samsung Galaxy S7 looked really nice so we decided to treat ourselves. I've been back and forth between Android and Apple a few times so not sure how long I will stay Android this time but the iPhone was starting to feel a bit boring.

Thanks for the response, some really good questions there. I've actually just picked up a smart watch, managed to get a Moto 360 for £30 as it was an ex-display model so thought for that price I can't go wrong, that said I can always take it back if something else grabs my eye so I would still appreciate suggestions.

To answer those questions.

Display size on the larger size.
Other than basic step counting I wouldn't need any other sports features.
Battery life isn't a concern so long as I can get a day out of it.

For Android Wear I'm not really sure, I've heard great things about the Gear S2 which I know runs Tizen, quite a few people seem to rank it as one of the top smart watches. I've had no experience of Tizen or Android Wear and haven't been able to find much in the way of good comparisons between the two. All I need is discreet notifications and ideally the ability to respond to messages, since I'm going to an Android Phone I will likely be using WhatsApp since me and my wife are often in different countries so we need a messaging option that uses data rather than sms.
