Android Central Question

My phone has the following root folders:
- Alarms
- Android [system folder]
- Audiobooks
- DCIM [camera pictures, videos]
- Documents
- Downloads [downloads from browser, etc]
- Movies
- Music
- Notifications
- Pictures
- Podcasts
- Recordings [voice recording files]
- Ringtones
- Samsung

I understand the purpose of some of these folders, as noted with the bracket notes, and I understand the implication of the folder names, but I have no idea what should be found or placed into each of the other folders.

How are the other folders used by the system? What would I find within each (saved as I am using various apps), or what would I need to put into these folders (to be used by various apps)?

Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! Most of those directories are standard, and are for your convenience. You don't have to put your music in the /Music directory (i.e., you could create your own directory if you want), but it's there if you want to use it. I think some directories are actually specifically used by the system, though. For example, the /Ringtones directory is where you can place your own sound file for a custom ringtone, and that should show up in the ringtone selection menu.

Welcome to Android Central! That's not entirely accurate. Most of the directories listed by the OP are standard directories that are automatically created for the user's convenience. But most apps won't automatically use these directories, since they will often have their own app-specific directories where they save their own downloaded files.
