What camera sensors does the 5T use?

I've been wondering: is the inferior quality of the 5T photos (pretty much every review I've seen says this is the only thing separating the phone from being the best) due to the hardware or software?

In other words, with adequate post-processing (using e.g., the tools of Google Photos), could one get better quality out of them than what testers are finding?

It has more to do with the software, I believe. I've spoken to someone who sideloaded the Google Camera apk, and he thinks the images are better.

From what the guys on the AC podcast talk about, it also sounds like the phone's firmware isn't fully utilizing the dedicated low-light camera, so if they tweak the firmware, maybe that will improve significantly as well.

I can say that it's definitely (at least partially) a software issue (5T).

I have Gcam mod and stock OnePlus camera and you can see the difference in quality in most pictures that lack a lot of light.

I'm still testing though.

I'm coming from a 6P, with a dying battery, to an incoming 5T, so I'm wondering about this too, the 6P was awesome for most pics, *except* really low-light, IME.

Wouldn't the other cam apps do pretty badly low-light though, it seems like (unless it's all abstracted in firmware, sort of doubt it) low-light would fail pretty miserably on the 5T, or at least not ever trigger the secondary camera, the one they added/replaced just for this purpose?

I wonder about this, do you think a "stock" photo is just sent to the firmware, to make a (very, literally) split-second decision on which sensor to use, or maybe it just uses both, if below a certain light level?
If so, that would definitely lend itself to a "workaround" using the camera s/w, assuming they let you manually "fire" the secondary low-light sensor, right?
If it's firing both in all low-light situations, and then the post-processing either chooses or somehow "blends" them, then a s/w (maybe not even firmware) fix would most likely be the deal here.

I really don't know. From what the AC podcast guys say, it does sound like the camera software needs to be adjusted to recognize better the proper low light conditions where it would be helpful. Since not all phones have dual lenses, I would guess that 3rd party camera apps wouldn't be able to do this -- it'd have to come from OnePlus themselves.

At least now, OnePlus is going through with some camera updates - I've seen some users here in the forums saying that picture quality is better.
