The mic on my evo broke last week so I have to use bluetooth or headset only --the store is ordering me a new phone which I should be able to pick up tomorrow or Sat .... question is --what can I expect to find as the latest software on it and is there a root out for it ... I was able to restore my phone to factory before I took it in to the store for them to check it out --am really hating it now that I've been used to rooted phone ...hoping that there is a root out there for whatever the latest version of software is...any info??thanks all!

they will have a new root method available very quickly for new unrooted phones, but I would doubt that your new phone will have the new software on it yet, most of the time those devices are sitting in a warehouse somewhere for weeks before they hit the streets... just get it before the sprint store morons update it!

I agree, that it is very likely that the replacement phone will have software version 3.70.651.1 on it, which is android 2.2 (Froyo).

It does not matter which version, You want to root the lastest software version for the EVO anyway. Which is software version: 3.70.651.1, baseband radio 2.15.00.11.19, android 2.2

His concern was regarding the software update that is already available from sprint to bring phone to gingerbread, it is build 4.22.651.2. so version 3.70.651.1 is not the most current.

Did not realize they released gingerbread yet. Sorry, my software update info though is still correct.

I just received my warranty replacement EVO in the mail today after the USB port failed. It came with the 4.22.651.2 Gingerbread update already installed, so I have to wait until the smart people figure out how to root the latest update.
