What do I do if my battery won't fit in it's intended slot?

I fell from my fire escape and so did my phone. From the first floor the phone fell and the battery came out. After I retrieved the phone, the battery won't fit in the slot. It's an LG G3.

Presumably the battery has become distorted.

The metal part doesn't get distorted that easily. It's possible the plastic front cover. @AC Question: simply pull off the plastic label (with the text) and then carefully remove the plastic front like I/we did here:
