What do I need to do to get a sound to play when I receive an e-mail

[Android Central Question]

I have a Galaxy 7. I can send and receive e-mail messages. However, it will not play a sound when I receive a new e-mail.

I have restarted the phone. I have turned on notifications. I have checked the volume. I am not in do not disturb mode.

When I "select" a sound to use, it plays the sound. It just doesn't play a sound when I receive a new e-mail.

What else should I check?
