First of all I would like to apologize for all the threads asking question's this is a learning experience for me. I have been doing research for a few days now on all subjects and will continue to do so after this post.
Ok now my question.
What would you recomend for a..
Rooted Lg optimus s ls670ZVD with Base band LS670MVD
The Kernel version is 2.6.32.9 lge@android-build #2
android version 2.2.2
with Xionia CWMA Recovery
Service Provider Sprint
Stay with froyo and use the custom roms for it or update to Gingerbread and use the custom roms for it?
If I update to Gingerbread do I need to root my phone again? or does it stay rooted? Also will I lose the recovery if I update?
The main reason I want a custom rom is to get rid of all of sprints bloatware.
Also can you tell me what the benefits of custom roms are for both froyo and gingerbread other then the obvious to get rid of the bloatware.

It is a personal choice. There are good and bad points to both.

ZVD is very stable.

ZVH is the latest and has some quirks that affect some people. Most newer ROMs are based on ZVH, but the ZVD ROMs are also very good, just not update as often anymore.

If you install ZVH update you will lose root.

If you install ZVD update you will lose root.

If you want to install ZVH update, you need to go back to stock Recovery first or else the ZVH radio won't flash and your data won't work.

So in a nutshell stick with froyo custom roms until there is a stable build of gingerbread.
And if I put in a custom rom whether its based off of froyo or gingerbread I have to re-root my phone again. is this correct?.

Most of the devs are now running gingerbread. It is stable for a lot of people, but a significant amount of people have quirks where they go back to ZVD. If you are one of those that aren't affected by the quirks, you may like ZVH better. If you are affected by the quirks, you'll probably like ZVD.

As a convenience, all custom ROMs include root.

You only "lose" root when installing the stock ZVD and stock ZVH updates.

ZVD-based ROMs should be paired with ZVD radios or things might not work (ie data)

ZVH-based ROMs should be paired with ZVH radios or things might not work (ie data)

The only way to flash the radio is to run the stock ZVD or ZVH updates *using the stock recovery*.

nandroid restores will *not* flash the radio. Running the stock ZVD or ZVH update in Xionia recovery will *not* flash the radio. Running the stock ZVD or ZVH updates in thunderc recovery *might brick your phone*

Let get this right if I want to put a gimgerbread custom rom I need to go back to sys
To
On
Stock froyo and update to gingerbread then root my phone again to put a custom rom on its.
Am I correct so far?

If you are currently on ZVD, rooted, with Xionia, to get to ZVH and flash custom ROMs, you need to:
1) restore stock recovery
2) flash ZVH update.zip
3) root ZVH
4) install Xionia recovery

Then you are ready to flash ZVH-based ROMs.

There is a guide to do all this here:

I for one had a lot of problems when I accepted the GB download from the carrier. I didn't know it at the time, but when I asked about it here the consensus among the more experienced and technically savvy members was that I needed to dump GB and downgrade to Froyo pronto. That, and subsequently rooting ZVD mostly solved the problems I was having.

On the other hand, your mileage might vary if you have different preferences and priorities from mine. You might want to check out my topic opener at the link above, which I've mentioned because that thread postdates everything upthread here.
