What do you think is the best android device ever made?

Just thought this would be a fun topic. It's very open ended and subjective so I have a feeling I'll learn a thing or two from the responses.

My vote goes to the Nexus 7 2013. It did everything well at a price that I still can't believe.

As I think about devices from the past Droid X, HTC Dinc, S3 jump out as me as being fantastic devices for their time as well.

I would say the 2013 Moto X. Sure, the paper specs weren't great, but everything was so optimized that the device just purred. Small enough that one hand use was very easy, but still had a nearly 5" screen. Throw in the Always Listening, and Active Display, and you have 2 features that gave Android a new direction.

I would say the nexus 10 tablet. Some of it's specs would work today.

Ever since we got rid of cable, the Chromecast has a special place in my heart!

Also, I think the S3 was the first phone that was clearly better than the iphone of its time. Look at how many features the S3 innovated that apple is only just now implementing (NFC, larger screen)

There are a ton of choices... Since mentioned already. First Moto X, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Note 2, lots of contenders, but gotta go with the one that made the most impact. It had it's flaws, but it set the direction for android phones.

Galaxy SIII - This was really the first mega success that really established Android as a viable competitor to the iPhone. It put large screen phones on the map. Much as I hate Touchwiz, I gotta give that phone props.

Nothing Nexus. I've had nothing but grief with mine when it comes to QC with the N5 and N7. Got rid of the N6 within a week. I was able to forgive the shoddily made stuff when Nexus used to be priced so low you could turn a blind eye to it. On the software side I've seen OEMs optimize 5.02 themselves rather than wait for Google who took up until 5.1 to achieve the same smoothness and bug fixing on Nexus.

The device manufacturers who make Nexus for Google don't sincerely care about the quality of them and it shows. I was willing to accept that at N5 and N7 pricing but certainly not at the jump in cost the N6 and N9 climbed to. There's been no corresponding climb in quality to justify it.

I kind of automatically feel like there is some bias when a device that is currently viable is brought up.

I agree that the Galaxy S3 might be the best device for the time it was released. It had no real competition other than maybe the droid DNA or was it the rezound that came out at that time?

I had the rezound when it came out, loved that phone except for the putrid battery life, had to charge that thing 3 times a day until I finally got an extra battery for it.. lol.. And yes it came out around the same time as the s3, the DNA came out later.. now I have the nexus 5 that I absolutely love, best smartphone I've ever owned, no issues..

I agree that the Galaxy S3 might be the best device for the time it was released.

That's why I gave it a nod. When the S3 came out, it coincided with the release of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). ICS was really the first 'mature' version of Android that really stood out as a viable alternative to iOS. And with the S3, you had a perfect marriage of device to operating system... it had a large, high resolution screen... powerful, fast.... it is not suprise that Samsung sold as many as they did. It was a great phone that came at the perfect time.

It has been eclipsed, obviously, by newer, faster, more capable phones in the years since... that that phone really propelled Android forward.

Best for whom? for gadget and Google geeks, probably one of the Nexus phones, For media consumption and entertainment, the Kindle Fire 8.9 HDX, has knockout graphics, built in stereo speakers with real separation, and the built in interface for Amazon media. But it's no slouch when using it with Huluu, Plex, Netflix, or any of the channel streaming services. and of course for books, it's a Kindle.

There's no one "best" device for all users.

For its era the Nexus S was pretty awesome. It's hopelessly underspecced now, but I keep one around as a backup phone.
