What do you think is the best phone to get?

As a developer, I had some good times with it a few months back. As for now, as everyone says G3 is also very good option.

Get the new Galaxy Note 4. Its a beast. And I think LG G3 is an amazing device. A friend of mine was also complaining about small stutters while heavy graphic intense gaming. If you think you can live without a 2K screen, Get an LG G2 or G2 Pro. Still, G3 is the best device available right now. Unless of course, if you count in the new Galaxy Note. :)

The only phone that is out that IMO competes with the G3 is the Sony Z2, I loved mine but couldn't warrant keeping Two Flagship phones so i sold it

So, I've tried and returned my G3 due to performance and battery reasons, so now I need to decide which is going to be the phone I should get. I value battery life, performance, good software, and good update support. Camera isn't super important to me.
The G3 and its competitors are just too flippin' BIG, in my view.

As it happens: My wife and I are currently in the same decision-making process, tho for a somewhat different reason. Right now, for us, the contenders are Motorola Moto G LTE, Google Nexus 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4. Near as I've been able to tell: It looks like the Moto G LTE beats the other two in the three aspects we find most important: Build quality, battery life and, typical of Motorola devices, cell connection performance. The other two are higher performers, but at the cost of runtime. The only thing that's keeping in contention is we can finance them and the S4, additionally, has WiFi calling.

But...

Well, I play enough top tier games where that performance would be appreciated.
We play no games at all on our handsets. That changes things quite considerably, I would think. I don't know. I'm not a game player. Probably you want a G3 or an M8, I guess. Maybe an S5? But having returned two G3s, already, I don't know why you'd want to do that again.

If battery life is important, I'd be very skeptical about the new Moto-x, at least until there are a lot of real-world user reports. It has a faster processor, bigger, higher res screen than the original Moto-x ,but a smaller battery. That doesn't sound like a recipe for long battery life. The camera is an unknown at this point, but the one on the last X was just OK.

The HTC camera isn't all that great, but it's better in low light than some. Pretty bad in bright light, though.

It's fashionable to rag on Samsung on these boards, but it's hard to find much functionally wrong with the S5. The "lag" is overblown, you can disable most of the bloat in the Device Manager, and replace the launcher with Nova (which is better than any of the built-in launchers, including Google Now Launcher and Sense). The camera is among the best in bright light, but just acceptable in dim. If battery is really important, the S5 has decent life plus the ability to swap in a backup battery when needed.

Agree in all respects... except the battery. 2200mAh for the 2013 model, 2300mAh for the 2014, is it not? Don't know as a mere 100mAh will be enough to offset the increased demands. Then again: As I experienced with my HTC Sensation 4G: Software can accomplish a lot.

They've kinda of rather earned it, IMO. Too bad they have to consistently ruin their great hardware with execrable software :(

See, that's exactly the kind of attitude I'm talking about. 100 million or more Galaxy S devices sold would indicate that most people think the software is just fine. If you don't like the Samsung launcher, it's easy to replace, without even rooting. The "bloatware" doesn't get in your way, as most of it doesn't do anything if you choose not to use it, and most of it can be disabled easily. But because people complain about Samsung software on AC, people who have never even used it say it's terrible.

Aside from that, hardware you're stuck with, software is malleable. It's a lot easier to fix the software (if it really needs fixing at all) than it is to replace the battery and put an SD card in a Moto X, or upgrade the camera and shrink the bezels in an HTC One.

You have no idea what I've gone through with Samsung and Samsung devices, nor have you any clue as to my tech. experience and capabilities, so please to not be accusing me of "attitude." I have what I regard to be very good reasons for shunning Samsung devices. Being as I feel Samsung products are not good enough for me, I can hardly recommend them to others. At least not without caveats.

100 million or more Galaxy S devices sold ...
By that reasoning: VHS was better than Betamax, PCs running MS-Windows are better than Apple Macs and McDonald's Big Mac®s are better than prime rib and lobster at a four-star restaurant.

Aside from that, hardware you're stuck with, software is malleable. It's a lot easier to fix the software ...
As anybody who's ever bricked their device can tell you.

If you like Samsung products: Fine. But please refrain from questioning the motivations and mental capacity of those who do not.

I'm skeptical that the 2300 mah battery will be enough now that it has a 1080p screen though.

What carrier will you be on? If you'll be on Verizon, then I'd hold out for the Maxx refresh. That will take care of your battery life concern.

Otherwise, you're going to have to realize that no matter what phone you get, you will find something wrong with it. You're going to have to decide what kinds of concessions you are willing to make.

I think the Galaxy S 5 Prime (SD 805, 3 gig and QHD) display would be a good choice. The only question is if Samsung will release it outside of korea

I will answer that for you, NO. It is a Korea exclusive.

That's too bad because this is the phone Samsung should have released as the Galaxy s5 :(

The difference between the two won't matter to the mass consumers.

Sorry but that's not true I've seen the YouTube videos and you can definitely see a difference between them in terms of performance and display quality

And it still won't matter those who got an S5, they akready have one and it already is a good phone. The one you like is a country exclusive, and that is ok. That is how businesses do things. The changes in processor and screen are only incremental differences that is why it won't matter to end consumers they still look like the same device.

Agreed but I believe it would have sold way better than the normal s5 because it's the phone people wanted from the get go. The faster LTE speeds are just a by product

Actually, a version of the it, identical but for a 1080P display, is going to Europe. There doesn't seem to be any indication either version will come to the US though.

Why would it? The S5 is months old and for all intents and purposes and forward facing to consumers it is the same phone. I don't see a logical reason to do it.
