What do you want to see from the HTC M10?

So the leaked specs about the 6" phablet are amazing.

M9 speakers max out at 95 dB while my nexus 6 is 85.

Given that phablet is larger with room for more powerful drivers they should boost boomsound and hit 100 dB.

But what really gets me excited is the giant screen as nice as the nexus 6.

Battery is 3500, so should be good for 7 hrs of Max brightness screen on Time maybe 8, since my nexus 6 was 6.5.

Ip certification is the new hotness. Moto is doing ip7 for pure but if htc can roll out ip67 or 68 well that would be amazing.

Now I am a nexus loyalist and plan to stubbornly cling to my nexus 6 as long as it gets updates.

But if the battery is removable and zero lemon comes out with a 10500 mAh battery case for it?

Then I'll say screw it and jump ship to htc and throw whatever amount of money at them they wish.

Because that would be the absolute perfect phone, we'll it would be if it were stock Android but I fear it will be years before we see another 6" nexus.

... looks like everyone summed it up. I like how the HTC M7, M8 & M9 don't look like the iPhone or the Galaxy S. I know it's sacrilegious to say that in the land of HTC but, as bad as HTC is doing this year in cellphones we ( HTC ), needs to pick it up and be on the TOP of the food chain again.

I went from the M7 to the M9 and I have no complaints. I've never even picked up a Samsung and used it more then, what, 2 min. looks too cartoony to me. HTC M9 is a MAN's device

I would agree with everything. I would love to see s bigger battery and get rid of sense and just put a HTCs own launcher and apps like Moto and call it a day. I would also love to see a camera improvement. That made me think twice about the M9.

Release and purchasable/deliverable by/within Q1 2016. I have a Droid DNA and its almost dead. I want to give HTC one last shot (M9 was a joke to me) before I have to jump ship. My two HTC phones to date have performed well and would like to stick around if possible. Sense does not bother me (TouchWiz however...yech).

Take good educated risks. The M9 was not a risk at all unless you count not changing much a risk. Evaleaks (If HTC had done any homework at all they would have seen the design direction of the M9 was not the right direction) showed what a good cross section of us are looking for. Most of us put phones in a protective case of some kind. Put your design queues into the part that is never covered up, the screen. My DNA has all kinds of neat-o red accents. How often do I see them...right; never.

Camera needs to work well. Enough said. No more excuses.

Good battery life; a battery size that supports decent use. I don't want to get hung up on a MAh number. But I want the battery to hold up to ~5 hours SoT and get through 24 hours; preferably 36.

I could take a slightly bigger screen but I am not looking for 6". And that screen usefulness needs to not violate the battery clause. Bright, crisp, vivid and accurate are great. Touting 4K is useless to me honestly. And having an awesome screen that has to run at minimum brightness to not violate battery consumption issues is not a good screen.

Keep bloat low. Be a trend setter here. Some wisps of this from other areas...take the bull by the horns. This could also follow under the risk category as well.

Another thing I will add, no fake stuff. Meaning don't play the games that *oither* company is playing with memory management. Yeah the new *ahems* have 4GB memory but from what I am reading it is not really being used.

Show technological advancement it hardware utilization. (If its not an Android sticking point; which I don't think it is). If your hardware can run with the big dogs it WILL hunt. And of course allowing the owner to configure if humanly possible. I see so many complaints about phones of various manufacturers and if that manufacturer allowed the end user to toggle the value on/off it would go a long way.

This is certainly going to be an interesting year for HTC. I'm not sure what direction they're heading, but I'll assume they'll be an M10. Here's what I'd like to see, and I'll try and be realistic instead of just listing my dream phone!

1) trim down sense. hated what they did with it last year. I don't expect it to be as light as Moto, but head in that direction.
2) black bar, no excuses HTC, figure it out.
3) freshin up the design (copy evleaks version ... that was perfect)
4) 5.5" 1440p display
5) 4000 mAh battery ... this is ambitious, but it would create a lot of buzz and could be what differentiates it from the competition.
6) Snapdragon 820
7) 32GB 64GB options with expandable storage
8) 4GB RAM
9) fingerprint sensor
10) quick charge
11) USB-C
12) wireless charging
13) NFC
14) front facing speakers
15) improved camera (doesn't have to be G4 or S6 level, but I expect iPhone 6+ range
16) offer compact version

Interesting. A few things I agree with a few I don't and others don't really bother me.

The One M7 and One M8 were probably my favourite phones I've used on Android. Loved both of them.

Here's what I'd like, based off you list:

1) trim down sense. hated what they did with it last year. I don't expect it to be as light as Moto, but head in that direction.
I actually like Sense quite a bit. The One M7 and M8 were the only non-Nexus phones I owned where I didn't put a launcher on top of them. I wouldn't have an issue using Sense again and didn't feel it needed to be stripped back, simply because the M7 and M8 in my judgement were really speedy, really fast phones. Plus the camera UI on the M8 I thought was superb. Simple and really easy to use.

2) black bar, no excuses HTC, figure it out.
I agree with this. I think they need to balance the design (so the bottom doesn't have such a large bezel compared to the top) and ind doing so, disguise the bar with just the top and bottom bezels. I think the distinct bar throws people off and is easy to pick at rather than just having one uniform plate.

3) freshin up the design (copy evleaks version ... that was perfect)
If they can do that, then yeah, that would be incredible. Again that render had a more balanced design where the screen was in the centre of the phone. Loved that render and was so disappointed when it turned out to be fake.

4) 5.5" 1440p display
I prefer smaller phones, so something around 5" would suit me well. Also to me, honestly 1080p is still crazy good on a phone. I have the Galaxy S6 and had the G4. Never felt the 1440p screen was beneficial over a 1080p screen.

5) 4000 mAh battery ... this is ambitious, but it would create a lot of buzz and could be what differentiates it from the competition.
Hehe, now this one is a biiiiiig stretch. Don't see it happening. But if the screen is around 5" and they can get around 3,000mah battery, that'd be very very acceptable to me.

6) Snapdragon 820
Yes this would be fine.

7) 32GB 64GB options with expandable storage
Agreed on a 64gb base model version. I would buy that as I don't tend to bother with SD cards.

8) 4GB RAM
I'd be ok with 3gb, but if they can get 4gb, sure.

9) fingerprint sensor
No we get into the disagreements. Personally I don't care for fingerprint scanners simply because (to me) there's no really comfortable place to put it on a phone. Assuming the HTC One M10 won't have a home button on the front and will have the dual speakers, where would the FP scanner go? On the back like Huawei devices? I really don't like the look of that and having to move my hand around to scan would be more cumbersome than anything to me. So I disagree with a FP scanner with ONE caveat - they manage to put the scanner on the power button how Sony have done it. Then it's out of the way, wouldn't look ugly and (hopefully) still be very fast and functional.

10) quick charge
Yes, this is a must. Fast charge on the GS6 is awesome. Even if I put it on charge for 15 mins, it juices the phone quite a bit. Love it.

11) USB-C
I'd like to see this too.

12) wireless charging
This doesn't bother me as I'd rather a phone charged as fast as possible over convenient as possible. If Qualcomm can do that inductive wireless charging with metal-bodied phones then that'd be great.

13) NFC
I'd say this is a given seeing as previous HTC One's have had them.

14) front facing speakers
Another given due to their history of FF speakers. Really hope they don't give up on this.

15) improved camera (doesn't have to be G4 or S6 level, but I expect iPhone 6+ range
Agree here. Though I'd like them to push for something on the G4/S6 level or better. I hope they put a lot of time and effort in getting the right sensor (with OIS) and more importantly, putting a lot of effort in the image processing software. A great camera is very very important. If they can get the ultrapixel camera to a higher resolution (say around 12mp minimum) I woudn't mind if they gave that another shot as for its time, it took really excellent low light shots. So a very large UP sensor with OIS and a higher resolution could be a combo for a pretty impressive camera. Though I think ultrapixel has a reputation now as being a 'bad' camera, so they might stay away from that.

16) offer compact version
Maybe this is the version that I'd be after? A 5" model, though compact phones tend to have worse specs, which I don't want...

Otherwise a solid list you got there.

HTC have the experience and talent to make a great smartphone in all respects. I really hope they put in the effort and make something special for next year. The comments by Cher Wang sound promising to me where she commented on making 'significant improvements in innovation and design' in the next flagship. Guess we'll see.

1) trim down sense. hated what they did with it last year. I don't expect it to be as light as Moto, but head in that direction. I have no problems with Sense. I sort of like it.
2) black bar, no excuses HTC, figure it out.Yep, I agree
3) freshin up the design (copy evleaks version ... that was perfect)The M8 is just about perfect in terms of size and shape
4) 5.5" 1440p displayNO! NO! 5.0" display. The darn phones are getting too big. I loved the 4.7" M7 in terms of size for my hand.
5) 4000 mAh battery ... this is ambitious, but it would create a lot of buzz and could be what differentiates it from the competition. Absolutely
6) Snapdragon 820 Ok,
7) 32GB 64GB options with expandable storageYES! No more measly 16gb options, and I would add a 128 gb option
8) 4GB RAM Yep
9) fingerprint sensorNo disagreement
10) quick chargeOk
11) USB-CMaybe, depends on how much USB-C takes off
12) wireless charging Not really needed for me
13) NFC Never use it
14) front facing speakersOf Course
15) improved camera (doesn't have to be G4 or S6 level, but I expect iPhone 6+ rangeMeh, my phone is a phone, my camera is my camera
16) offer compact versionPLEASE!!!!!

I would love a 4.7" M10 that had the specs of the bigger one. Phones larger than 5" are too hard to use, carry on my belt or in my pocket, or use comfortably. I loved the M7 size and shape.

Personally I'd like to see a better battery and more effort put into the camera.

If it has a 5.5" display it will be my next phone. I so want to try an HTC phone for the speakers, but i refuse to ever buy another smaller phone 5.2" or smaller ever again.

I have an A9 & it's a beautiful device. Sense has been slimmed back & it runs smoothly, as HTC have really optimised it running on a midrange SOC. With beefier specs it will be a killer.
I am hoping that the M10 will keep the A9 design, as you really need to hold & use the A9 to appreciate how good the hardware & software really are. The FP scanner works really well & doesn't look out of place.
I understand that some people prefer Phablet sized phone & I would hope HTC would have the sense (no pun intended) to accommodate everyone by giving them a choice of 2 different sizes.
The audio quality through headphones is fantastic & to be honest I don't miss the dual front speakers I had on the M7 & M8 as the sound from the bottom speaker on the A9 is really good.
Can't wait for the M10, or whatever its going to be called, to be released as I think this time HTC could tick all the boxes.
