What does Airplane mode turn off?

Hello,

Since my Mini-tasker, or Phone Weaver, or Llama (and several more I've tried) can not put my phone into airplane mode, I thought I'd have it turn off all the components that make up "airplane mode." But I've noticed that when I have it turn off Mobile Data, the 4G icon does disappear but the bars are still there with some signal coming in. What would I need to toggle off to have it in "airplane mode" since it can't toggle on/off the actual airplane mode.

Thanks so much.

Airplane mode turns off all connections to the phone. This includes the cellular connection, wifi, bluetooth, and I believe nfc (it does on my phone).

That's my question, I guess.

First, does "cellular connection" equate to mobile data? If not, what else would need to be turned off so it is still not attempting to get a signal? (btw... my wifi does not go off when in airplane mode)

Thanks for the reply.

No it doesn't, it equates to the connection to the tower. You would need to shut off the radio inside the phone to disable it if your airplane mode isn't working properly. Your wifi should go off while in airplane mode, it seems your phone may be having software related issues. Have you tried a factory reset to fix this?

Airplane mode only shuts off the phones radio..(cell & data) not wifi or Bluetooth....

Sent from my VS980 4G using AC Forums mobile app

It should, that's what airplane mode is made to do. That's how it works on my galaxy s3

Airplane mode initially shuts off all radios cell, data, wifi and bluetooth, but you can turn wifi and BT on individually so you can use the plane's wifi or your own set of bluetooth devices.

I just turned on my airplane mode and it did not turn off my wifi connection but it did turn off Bluetooth, mobile data, and cell reception. All my other phones shut down all wireless features in airplane mode. I guess the only point to airplane mode is to turn of cell radios since turning off mobile data doesn't kill the radios. It would be nice to see if other G2 phone's airplane mode is behaving the same way.
