What does it really mean that the S7 [edited by Mod] will get no more updates?

I've read several times that I should replace my S20 because it won't get any more updates, inducing security updates. What are the real drawbacks for keeping it as long as it functions well (which mine does)? I don't keep much on my phone, regularly deleting photos that I've moved to my computer or just have no interest in. I delete text threads after the thread's purpose has ended. I do have a contact list, with people's names, phone numbers, and email addresses.

Where did you hear this?

The phone isn't even a year old. No way that's right. I swear I saw something about three years. If Samsung killed updates to a flagship after a year, they'd kill their business pretty quickly

All Samsung phones from s10 series and on will get 3 years of software support

People have been getting the Feb update already I believe on some S20s and Note 20s

Samsung gives 4 years of security updates.

If its TMB they usually last

Does it ?

S7 got 3 years of monthly security updates and more than a year of quarterly updates after that.

Unless I'm mistaken we already have threads talking about Samsungs new commitment last year to start providing 3 years of OS updates, I think Android Central was where I learned about it.

The new might be 3 and 3 but the old was 2 and 4. Just powered my Verizon S7 up(turns on if plugged in) and its only Dec 2019 which may honestly be the last time I had a SIM in it. I might pop in a SIM and see if it updates again but still phone launched in spring of 2016 so that's at least 3 1/2 years of updates.

Oops, sorry. My phone is an S7, not S20.

Wonder if that rule still applies for s8 ,s9 series?
I'm aware the s7 got longer security update.

My Note 8 last updated November so they may not do the 4th year on the S8/N8.
