What does removing MotoBlurr do?

I was looking around and saw some tutorials on removing motoblur from the devour and on how to skip it during setup, what is the point in doing this does it allow further updates because motoblur is the only thing keeping the devour from updating? Does it get rid of the annoying "This application has stopped working" messages? What does it do and why would someone remove it and what do you loose by removing it?

removing motoblur screws up your phone.

since motorola has tied it into the kernel/ROM (I'm not sure which) the devour needs it to run efficiently.
