The top bar is the notification bar. The line of apps at the bottom is the dock. The rest of the screen is the home screen. If the house appears at the top of the home screen, just under the notification bar, and disappears when you scroll left or right, that means that's your default home screen and no matter which home screen you're on, hitting the Home button will get you back there.
