What does the star in my notification bar mean?

I've seen the star appear a handful of times since I got my X back in November. Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint anything that I was doing at the time when the star appeared to help me figure out why it was there. Anyone else seen this? What is it? Not a big deal, I'm just curious. Thanks!

I think it indicates silent mode.
