What does this battery icon mean in status bar??

When transferring to a USB stick on my phone it gets hot too. Another thing to remember, because I've lost files before, is to unmount the USB drive before pulling it out. At least with my usb stick, it can get corrupted fairly easy.

Edit: I don't have the same USB stick though.

Yeah I have Solid Explorer App that opens by default but when you choose to unmount from there it says unmounted but then generates a message saying the drive was not ejected properly and to restart the phone to make sure no loss of data.

I found I had to go to the Samsung My Files App to properly unmount the drive without error.

A guess on heat. The drive is all metal by choice. I carry a couple of metal Kingston drives on my key chain for work... one is a Win10 drive for installing formatting and installing Win10Pro if out in the field and the other keeps important programs and files I'll need to go along as well as carrying personal files.

Been using them for 5+ years at least so I trust the durability and protection a metal drive over plastic + they are much tinier to carry on key chain but have noticed a little warm at times.

This new one will by my replacement with more capacity and also can switch between USB-C/USB-A good to have both. Also SanDisk is USB 3.1 drive. Google says S22 USB port is USB 3.2 Gen 1 so theoretically can transfer up to 5 Gbps (10x faster than USB 2.0). I'm guessing they higher xfer rate is contributing to the heat. Will keep an eye on it.
Possible , see what happens
I will also invest in Samsung drive see how it goes

Looks like its out

SAMSUNG Type-C USB Flash Drive, 128GB, Transfers 4GB Files in 11 Secs w/ Up to 400MB/s 3.13 Read Speeds, Compatible w/ USB 3.0 / 2.0, Waterproof, 2022 https://a.co/d/cEBXCbw

Tiny. But I'd lose the cap... and probably the drive itself without a proper lanyard hole to affix to my key chain or key ring strap in my backpack.

I checked Amazon and the only one I saw with good reviews was SanDisk USB SS drive aluminum casing. The reviews for Samsung were a bit scary. I like the idea of having the end protected too and I can understand about losing the cap. That would be an issue.

Kingston is another good brand.

Thanks big difference
@mustang7757... I had some time to play with SmartSwitch and even though I liked how easy using the SanDisk, I wanted to try backing up to my laptop and see what the difference there was in speed or convenience.

I cabled my S22U to my Lenovo T480s USB-C to USBC-C using an Apple cable and it wouldn't connect or show the S22U as a drive. Reseated the cables and same thing.

I then used a smaller 6 inch USB-C to USB-C I usually keep in my travel bag and it connected and prompted me to Allow access on the phone end and when I did I see my Samsung Phone in my Windows File Explorer and able to open the folder and see files.

But when I run SmartSwitch it says, "No external storage device detected."

Is there some sort of driver you have to install on PC to allow SmartSwitch to work?

In Smart Switch the 3 dots upper right corner tap preferences and should be able to download drivers

I didn't see anything like that??

But when I plugged it into my laptop, it didn't bring up anything. Not even an explorer window. Only Allow on the phone and then I was able to open File Explorer and see the phone.
Try different cables because that makes a big difference

I lanyard mine. It has a proper lanyard hole in the device & the cap. I don't use the drive for Smart Switch. I use Smart Switch for PC.

I've usually used Smart Switch (monthly) to backup my phone to my PC/OneDrive. Of course, I use Samsung Cloud to backup everything possible there. I don't use OneDrive for Gallery sync. All that to say, I just used Smart Switch to backup my phone to a 1TB SSD (Samsung). After it initialized, it said my backup would take almost 4 hours. (I was hoping it would be faster than PC). Turned out, it was much faster. Maybe took about 20-30 minutes. Good-bye to PC backup. Of course, YMMV.

I would still back up multiple places, never know
