What feature/spec will make you upgrade?

I've owned my 3XL long enough to start getting the itch to upgrade. The problem is that nothing released lately improves on the 3XL and meets my needs as well to justify replacing it. So it got me thinking about what it would take for me to retire the 3XL, and I'd like to hear what that would be for you all!

For me, it would take a few things:
1. A quality screen with at least 90hz refresh rate
2. An understated design with premium materials
3. All day battery life
4. Near stock (if not stock) Android with expedient security and feature updates)
5. At least competitive camera performance

What will it take for you all to retire your Pixel 3s?

I'd like to have unlimited Original Quality backups to Google Photos on a new Pixel, but it would seem that ship has sailed.:'(

Sounds like the pixel 4 xl lol

I considered it, but to many reviews indicated that even the XL struggled to get through a day off use without a charge. And it might be nitpicking, but I wasn't a fan of the design. The edges look too much like a bumper case.
It was tough deciding not to go for it tho.

Agree, sad to see it go. It seems they didn't have a problem getting folks to use Google photos, so they stopped promoting it.
I pay for a good amount of drive storage anyways, so it's less of a concern for me, but nevertheless another reason to hang on to the 3 if it's not giving one problems

Gotcha, I have the device battery life is a day between 6 to 8 SOT ,looks is personal preference and like it a lot.

I also wonder if they're starting to get concerned about the amount of storage needed for everyone's photos and videos. The key issue here is 4K videos, since those can take up a huge amount of space. I've spoken to some people at Google who've mentioned this in passing.

That would explain it. Wonder if Google could restrict only 4K video backup at original quality, instead of down converting everything. Seems like a minority that are using 4K are ruining it for the rest. Sort of like data caps for those that are the heaviest users.

For me it's all battery life. The P3aXL blows the P3 away on this. I'm happy with just about every other spec of the P3XL. I'd rather have a significantly larger battery than almost anything else. Oh, and putting a fingerprint scanner back would also be nice. Until they can perfect iris scanning, FPS is my preference.

That's what I would've hoped as well, but it's probably just one of multiple factors involved.

Agree about battery life. I'd argue that the 3XL is borderline, but I've made it work. But hearing the overwhelming negative press on the P4XL battery life is what kept me from upgrading.
I also agree about the FPS. I don't mind using my face to unlock. I've seen enough evidence that the P4's implementation is secure enough. But with as little support of the correct API for face unlock as there is, I'd like the backup method of a fingerprint as opposed to a password. In-display FPSs have been around long enough, I too am hoping to see it in the P5.

To be fair, the negative reviews about the battery have been primarily about the smaller Pixel 4, right? I think reviewers mostly say the 4 XL's battery is "fine."

I agree, for me to upgrade my phone in the future, the number one priority for me besides stock Android, would be excellent battery life as it is for most people., like I always say, if you don't have better life for when you need at the most picture-taking music streaming etc then what's the point of the phone? Haha as far as other features that I would like honestly I'm not quite sure I don't need a secondary camera lens. Literally everything on my phone runs perfectly. I mean maybe a 90-hz screen but not if I have to sacrifice battery life or though. And yes B Diddy, to your point, unlimited original quality backups to Google photos is what I wouldn't be able to live without. because, at the end of the day, what is the one thing we always do on our phones especially with the Pixel phone with an amazing camera software, we take photos and we want to have unlimited storage backup! That's the most realistic and logical thing I can possibly suggest to everyone else here. I don't even care too too much about video quality because how often do I take videos on my phone? Almost never. I mean once in a blue moon but it's not a big priority to me.

I think it depends on different lifestyles. I just had my first daughter and I find myself using video a lot more now. Akin to how our parents would video tape us as kids.
That's one area that Apple has Google beat in, and I'm hoping since the Pixel has dominated still photography over the last four generations, they can start to focus at least some resources to improving the video UI and compete with Apple on that front.

I'm not spending nearly $1k for fine, especially for a spec that's important to me. However, now that the 4XL is discounted though, I can agree that fine is acceptable for $599

Yup yup, I will agree with you on that front.

Fair enough! We're seeing that play out on the recent Galaxy Chromebook as well -- top notch specs and performance, but miserable battery life.:-\

Totally agree on this one. Only reason I can easily make do with a 64GB phone since I take a ton of photos.

They'd better have 128gb base storage on their upcoming Pixel 5s. But I have a feeling they want your money for Google one. Which sucks big time. I would like a more modern design. It's about time Google up their game there. It's year 5 for Pixels, time for that hardware to mature. Give me both of these on beautiful smooth android experience and I'll bite. That said, my 3 XL still humming like a champ.

What do you mean?

The Pixels are some of the only devices out there that have a relatively different design from the rest of the slabs.
